If/when we ever have REAL problems again, and when there is no longer any value in "virtue signaling".
Everyone today wants to be some sort of "hero". The person that has overcome significant adversity to achieve success. The reason is because that has been glorified (with good reason) throughout American history. But now true "inequality" is virtually non-existent. So it has to be fabricated. In fact, it's been flipped in that race, gender, nationality, etc. can be used to gain an advantage where none would exist on a strictly merit-based criteria.
Graduating from medical school is a very significant accomplishment in and of itself, and these kids should be applauded for that regardless of their skin color. But it is laughable, if not insulting to older generations who had to deal with actual inequality, to suggest these kids overcame discrimination to become doctors. There isn't a single medical school in the United States of America that discriminates against applicants on the basis of race

See, if they had bulldozed those slave quarters, as the idiot left wants done to all unflattering historical objects, there would have been no opportunity to illustrate this contrast.

You mocking these people is a remnant of slavery and oppression. Would you be as taken aback if it were a bunch of white people from poor backgrounds standing proud of where they are today? I doubt it.
Exactly. I came from a very rural part of the South and was the first in my family to go to college and, for the most part, escape the vacuum that is poverty among the rural white folks. I still bring up the fact that I grew up in poverty in a double-wide next to a dirt road. That's not victim hood. That's pride in seeing how far your heritage has come over the years.

On their merits? Or is that an impossibility.

Friend of mine got a 29 on his ACT and didn't qualify for a scholarship and at the time couldn't afford LSU. Son of a single mother, school bus driver.
While our highschool classmate, African American girl whose father was a Doctor got the same scholarship with a 27. The threshold was 30 for white, 26 for black.
She got it and didn't need it with a lower score than the guy who needed it.
Guy ended up becoming a police officer instead, hating life as he had to deal with horrible people, was finally able to go back to college years later and was able to quit the police force.
At our reunion, she was a stay at home mom. Scholarship put to great use.
