Not sure what the issue is with this. It's a powerful picture when you stop to think about those who spent their lives in those quarters who could never dream that their lineage would lead to doctors.
There’s also a bunch of other shitholes worldwide (think Mumbai slums with untouchables, workhouses in Ireland, the Australian outback, etc.) that make a similar point.
With the exception of a small minority of folks worldwide who have been in families with resources that transcended many generations, the last two or three centuries have been wonderful for upward mobility and ability to self-determine one’s fate according to one’s own abilities & drive.

Asians might have something to complain about. They’re a minority and everyone from the continent of Asia is classified as Asian regardless of whether their particular countries are over represented in the medical field or not.
