So there was no way to introduce an inept pirate captain other than some ridiculous magnetically sealed vault blow torch scene?
Not to mention the cannon that only got one shot off….but it never shot until after the ship gets impaled & after dozens of pirates run through the tunnels?
One blast, then space jumping pirates on ropes are able to jump to the cannon, plant an explosive, and blow it up….again, after only getting one shot off and never firing again?
It’s dumb stuff like this, no passion for detail, just clock punching “sexy sells” John Woo have everyone dive when firing their weapon stupidity, CGI crap.
How about an opening scene that has the ship hidden behind a large asteroid and the pirates equipped a smaller asteroid with a propulsion motor and a team rides it into the ship jumping individually to blow the defense cannons and attached an anchor. Then the pirate ship can reveal itself pulling the ships together and then a plank (anchor plank pirates) for the crew to board the other ship through the hole the asteroid created. (Instead of kamikaze ‘the first 10 of you will be shot to death as soon as the door opens’)
Even if they wanted to do the Captain shakedown blow torch scene, they could’ve added a simple little dialogue of the captain getting frustrated, calling for the blow torch and the cutter saying “but that’s going to take most of the juice we have left, try roughing him up more” but the captain says “ Once that door is open, we’ll have plenty of fuel” and the scene could play as normal.
It’s then you realize that they attacked the ship that way because they were nearly out of resources while giving it more a pirate feel instead of “we’ll just call them pirates”.
Just wish there were people that would catch these little things.
PS: I would also have one of the pirates get burned when walking through the recently molten lava door’s edge, instead of just rubbing against it unfazed.

I tried to watch it, and I decided to stop it after the opening scene.
If they can’t get the opening scene right there’s no way the series is worth watching.
So 50 pirates are shaking down a captain of the ship to open a vault which they seem to be able to open with a blow torch in 30 seconds?
What’s the actual point of all the people waiting there for someone to open a door? You just ran three tunnel probes into the ship “oh, but I don’t wanna have to break down a door”?
Absolutely terrible as always.

Do you not want accountability for your tax dollars?
It seems objections often stem from the shame of personal usage. Everyone is curious about what others pay in, but no one wants to acknowledge how much they use.

Now that we have digitalized data, open government, and unique identifiers would you support telling people how much tax payer dollars they’ve consumed?
I think it cost somewhere around $15,000 a year for a kid to get a public education. Add free lunches and a high school diploma and you gotta be closing in on $200,000 in today’s dollars by the time they become an adult.
Add court, traffic infractions, government paid health expenses, criminal justice, etc…
Would it make people appreciate or hate socialism more?
The more you pay in various taxes, the less you owe at the end of your life. Estate tax. Should your kids get anything? We bankrolled you, somehow is supposed to pay it, why not you?

re: work dress shirt and laundry dry cleaning
Posted by Kujo on 8/19/24 at 12:27 pm
Depends on how much you paid for the shirt.
If it’s on the Neiman Marcus end $300-400, then you send it to the cleaners anytime you even try it on, even if you decide not to wear it.
The oil ion the skin, even for a brief period, will oxidize and produce a permanent “ring around the collar” darkish, dirty look.
If it’s a $12 Ross shirt, then wear it 3 times, wipe the dust off your TV, maybe even a bathroom counter, your three year old’s mouth after she eats a bowl of spaghetti…..then take it to the cheapest cleaners you can find and complain after….”this thing isn’t clean at all!!!”
In the dry cleaning industry it’s known, “the cheaper the prices the dirtier customer’s clothes are when they come in”…. As well as the more incensed they are when all their cheap arse clothes they abused aren’t spotless.
Like some jackass that goes mud riding then complains about scratches on the vehicle that they will “swear to God that was not there before”.

Sure they added restrictions, but housing outpaced population growth.
You blame the restriction instead of the demand for single people housing & waste?

We don’t really hear about it locally as much because you can buy a house for less than 200,000 here.
But in places like the West Coast & San Francisco, the claims of housing shortages are being stated as the blame for all the homelessness.
But it doesn’t quite make sense:
The population of San Francisco increased 4% while housing inventory increased 56%.
So why a “shortage” now when there was ZERO mention of a housing shortage until the 1990’s?
From Wiki:
The underlying issue is family size.
Divorce, Unwed mothers, “career” singles.
It used to be a sustainable culture of mother, father and a couple kids all living in one place.
Now one baby daddy lives one place, another baby daddy lives somewhere else and mom and her two kids need their own place so we go from having one unit to three. We have “permanent bachelors” & empowered women, who all need “a place of their own”.
When should we start demanding accountability for the “Carbon Footprint” of non-“nuclear family” choices?
“You want a place of your own? Great, you’re the reason for homelessness you selfish piece of Shite.”

re: Who here doesn't shop at Costco? UPDATE - NEW UPDATE
Posted by Kujo on 8/14/24 at 2:18 pm
I don’t believe Costco is the same value as it once was nor do I believe they command the quality that made them trustworthy.
I remember they would only carry maybe one or two brands of something, but it was at a serious discount from what you would buy it at other retail establishments, and they only offered items that were higher quality not cheaply made garbage.
However, over the past five years, I’ve noticed that things I’ve purchased from Costco have been seriously disappointing. When I check prices, I see I can get it on Amazon for cheaper. And also locally we have this chain “grocery outlet bargain market” that is lower than other grocery stores & Costco.
I’ve been telling my wife to cancel our Costco membership for two or three years now, but she still wants to use it for whatever reason

re: Keep Kyler Murray or Jared Goff?
Posted by Kujo on 8/14/24 at 1:43 pm
How many yards will Kyler’s WR’s have?
Harrison
Jones
Wilson
Dortch
I asked AI to summarize projection versus actual on a per game basis over the last four years for both Goff and Kyler:
“ Jared Goff: Consistently exceeded projections by an average of 4.75% per game.
Kyler Murray: Generally underperformed projections by an average of 6% per game”
You can trust AI if you want to or not I just use it as a coin flip when I’m between different things.
Maybe look at your league’s scoring projections, and discount Kyler by a certain percentage and increase Goff by a certain percentage and pick the one that has the highest projected… if you’re really in between the two.

Rumor/Speculation: Nick Chubb closer to being activated. Browns cut 4 including a RB.

This wasn’t cuts due to roster size, as they signed 3 new players. The speculation is why they didn’t sign 4.

…shortly before the start of Monday’s practice the team made seven roster moves official as well:
Signed
LB Brandon Bouyer-Randle
CB Faion Hicks
S Chase Williams
Waived
CB Vincent Gray (injured)
DE Marcus Haynes
LS Rex Sunahara
Terminated contract
RB John Kelly Jr.

Perfect solution: Israeli/Palestinian Land Swap
Posted by Kujo on 2/9/24 at 12:12 am
Israel says, let’s simply trade places.
We will rebuild on your undeveloped or in ruins land, and you may have all our condos, houses, and mansions. That land will be yours to manage completely & separately from us. There will be a tolerance for some random breeches of trust, but there will be no organized conflict between the ruling power of each’s state.
We recognize each others autonomy & respect. If you agree, when do we move?

Yea, that’s the plan with weed control.
When we bought the house they had the entire yard as mulch. The mulch gets wet and clovers grow everywhere, fast.
I’ve sprayed the yard 4 times this first year and I just hate the way it looks. (Dead weeds you have to hand pluck) We also have gopher wire so it’s really impossible to rake.
I’ve driven around the neighborhood so I know that weeds still grow through the rocks but 3 to 4 times a year blasting the whole area with pre-emergent pellets or drenching the area should be easier to manage. I am also considering buying bags of sidewalk salt and dumping it all over.
it looks like I’ll just use two different contractors, one for the clearing and the other for installation.
BTW Jones, yes but I’m cheap and hate being ripped off. I also have a 100k bath & kitchen remodel while converting electrical from knob & tube to plan and I need to have everything permitted because the mayor lives next door.
First time poster: Rock Yard DYI help requested
Posted by Kujo on 1/30/24 at 11:55 pm
Bought a house in California where water & maintenance is more expensive.
Decided to go with a rock yard of only 1,300 sqft.
The bids I’ve been getting are $12-25K.
I figure I can do it myself by spending a faction of that on tools.
I got 20 tons of rocks in my future, is this something a married man with a 3 year old kid do by himself?
Has anyone here done it before? Steps are fairly simple right? Dig and level 3 inches of soil, barrier & chicken wire, outline with trim, dump rocks & spread, right?
For plants, invert a plastic flower pot, mulch and plant/seed.
Materials & tools $4,000.
Not seeing how labor is $8-21K for 40 hours of work.
But I’m smart enough to know I think I’m smart.
What am I missing?
