Where you bought should be important too.

Our 1st house we bought was in Pompano Beach, FL in 1983. 950sf 2BR 1 Bath with a 1 car carport. Later owners enclosed the carport so it's 1,250 sf. Zillow says it's worth $300k.

New build in 2002. Just south of 2000 ft.². I paid 145,000 for it and sold it for about 155,000. Couple years ago it sold for almost 400,000. There’s no way in the world that house is worth that much money.

Purchased new construction home in 2003. It was a 1300 square foot, 3 BR, 2 Bath home. It cost $88,500. It was a really decent house in a nice, safe neighborhood.

I feel like part of today’s problem is people aren’t looking for starter homes and/or these starter homes aren’t in good and safe neighborhoods.

2005/2006 $125k.

It wasn't anything special though. A true starter home - vinyl siding, carpet, 1400/sq ft and about an hour commute home for me in the evening.

Bought mine off campus in ‘04 to claim in state tuition for $150k.

Started renting it in ‘09 and it’s paid for itself 3X, and I don’t think I’ll ever sell it.

Purchased 2004-$91,600, sold in 2006 for $130k. Not sure when it was built.
1295 sq feet, 3/2 in between I-12 and Florida Blvd East of the split in EBR.

It's now estimated at 187k, and the last sellers in 2021 didn't do anything to the old arse cabinets, didn't change the appliances! or the color I painted the office. 21 YEARS AGO.

Meanwhile, my first house in Houston (2008) was bought for $135k and is valued at $310k (same as other properties currently for sale i the area.) I guess a good job market means something for home values. Who would have thought.

1995 ~ $134k; turned it into a rental and moved to Chapel Hill. So many GM workers were moving down to be near Spring Hill, I bought that one so I could be out of the city.
