Purchased - 2015
House built - 1950's
Size - 1000 sq ft, 2 bed 1 bath
Cost - $40,000
Sold in 2019 for 140k
Was actually four houses on the property. Fixed the one we lived in up first and moved in. Renovated two more and rented them out.
Was 28 and newlywed and it was in a turd of a neighborhood. We toughed it out for four years I think and set us really good for our next purchase which set us up even better for our current home.
Your first home doesn't have to be your dream home.

35000, right after I graduated from law school, 2/2 but in a really nice neighborhood - I used the theory (which worked out well) to have the cheapest house in a strong neighborhood. Most of the houses on the street were large two story 50's houses.

Built mid 50-ish, paid 17950.00 in 1974. Sold 1978 for 32000.00. 2/1 approx 1200 sq ft. Capital gains that year bit me in the arse!

Thread made me think of my parents, who bought the house of my childhood in 1956. Paid $9,000. Zillow says it's current estimated value is $1,840,00.

Purchased in 2015. It was technically built in the 80s, was destroyed during Katrina (only bricks), and rebuilt "new".
It was $165,000. We sold it in 2020 during covid for $242,000. It was 1,792 square feet.

1999
1453 sq ft paid $89,900
sold it in 2004 for $117,900
Zillow says it's worth $173,800 now, but I don't know how accurate that is.

$62,500 the last day of 1997.. 2 bedroom 1 bath.. 1300 Sq feet but real living area was about 1000Sq feet... After Katrina sold it to Road Home and after paying it off I walked away with $52,500 in my pocket.. Not including the contents payout... I wouldn't want my worst enemy going through what I went through for the 3 years after Katrina.. One hoop after another and the whole time not having insurance on the gutted house..
