Now, I know 45 years ago is a long time ago. I lived at Tiger Plaza from the fall of 1981 through the Spring of 1983. Then I lived my SR yr (83-84) at I think "The Library" on Jim Taylor. At the time, again almost half a century ago, it was perceived as a top off campus living area.

I started in 86. Signs of it being an undesirable location were evident. By the time I barely graduated 5 or 6 years later it had very visibly declined.

Sharlo was rundown in the early to mid 90s....if not before. The townhomes were still great to live in.

I always thought Sharlo was decent, but I rarely ventured over there. I remember the views of the place where DTL committed one of his murders, and it looked like a homely type of place for students.

I finished LSU in 1999. It was sketchy then but I don't remember any horror stories. It happened whenever Tiger Plaza decided to go with section 8 instead of students.
Sect 8 is one of the biggest scams put upon the american tax payer.

A lot of sorority girls lived in them after living in the sorority house. This was cica 1990 - 92. They weren't all that bad.

About right. I lived there from 1997-1999 and it was on its way down, but still probably 80% college students

The complex with the red doors?

I was at Tiger Plaza. I have lived off base at several Army posts while on active duty many moon ago and usually off base housing is pretty shitty close to the majority of Army bases, and Tiger Plaza was by far the worst I've ever experienced.

Once upon a time, there were only a handful of major upscale student apartments with the ones off Burbank and Brightside leading the way. I also remember mid to late 90’s when Sharlow was very decent for anyone and the place of College Drive called Fairway had a lot of students. Brooke Hollow and Oakbrook, in the 90s, were for the uber wealthy for the most part.

I mention these places in particular because no way would I let my children live in any of them…and this isn’t an El Cid joke. I find it extremely hard to believe that these places could go downhill so quickly. Brightside…what happened to it? I recall three complexes along it and they were all very upscale at the time.

Anyway I suppose the year I noticed that Tigerland, itself, was a shell of itself was probably 2010. New far more fancier complexes started getting built and all of the places that were Taj Mahals in the 90s became dumps.

There were only like 2 "nice" apartment complexes (What we called Brightside and I forget the name of the other one). Once more "nice" options were built, students got soft and didn't want your traditional shitty-poor college student experience anymore.

Yeah, you had Brightside and then "tower" on Nicholson. Those were the only "nice" places. Then there was an explosion of brand new complexes further and further out from campus.

I remember visiting the Cottages when they were new. Individual buildings and little streets with a massive clubhouse at the end. Apparently that went to shite in about 5-7 years.

Yeah, the parking lot was like the surface of the moon. You could get stuck in some of the potholes in a sedan

My 4-plex shared a courtyard with 3 other 4-plexes. There used to be a pool obviously but they filled it in and just left the ladders sticking out of the dirt. It was $340/mo though

This happened sometime after 2008. I had friends that lived in Tigerland. Once development started on Ben Hur, all the students left and went there.

I can't imagine it being anywhere near as bad in the 80's and 90's as some posters have said

I graduated 2000 and lived in Beau Chene my last few years after upgrading from Tiger Plaza. Anybody know how Beau Chene is today? It was definitely one of the nicer ones back in the late 90s.
