You call *that* an accent? :) (note my screen name)

Seriously, it's not like that Minnesota accent, or, depending f you're from da "nort side" or the "sout side":
Northsiders: "Chi-CAW-go"
Southsiders: "Chi-CAH-go"

Went Pheasant hunting in Iowa.
It was awesome.
People were nice and let us hunt on their property.
Even gave us some home cooking to take with us.

That is definitely the upside, but I have been treated much the same way in Acadia. I had a few Iowa guys with me, one of the company's pushboats was being refitted in the Houma area. These guys we there to assist.

They had seen some movie where Cajuns were like the Viet Cong, sniping and killing strangers, they were scared to go out at night. I had to explain that the Cajun may feed them to death, but that the only danger. Everyone of them gained 5-10 pounds eating boudin, etouffe, gumbo and jambalaya, I wish it had been crawfish season.

Best quote, "I don't know what kind of animal a boudin is, but his balls are delicious".

I saw a news segment recently. Cancer in Iowa is exploding.

Could it be the millions of gallons of Glyphosate they’ve been spraying over the whole State for decades

I flew into DesMoines in Dec for work once. Got into hotel late and came downstairs the next morning. Asked lady at desk what was the temperature outside?

“It’s 9. But it’s going to get cold later.”

It got well into the negative digits that day with a roaring wind. frick that place.

West Des Moines is really nice. The is pretty good fly fishing in the driftless region(NE part of the state).

Iowa City/Cedar Rapids(where I am at) area is ok. Food isn't that bad honestly. The area has a much more small town feel although Iowa City itself is becoming little Minneapolis.

As far as Louisianians saying it is "a flat, farm state", well that is funny. It is a very hilly state with more features than Louisiana. Yes, there is a lot of corn/soybean but one would have to ignore the sugar cane, cotton and soy beans in Louisiana to say Iowa were much different.

It is a small town state and most of the small towns are pretty nice. Much nicer than any small town in Louisiana or the south in general.

Winters are pretty brutal. We stayed below zero the entire month of January last winter. The wind also screams during the spring. Like hurricane force winds many times.

And most people are fat. Like really fat.

Nope. Mormon owned Marverick bought them all. Maverick is much better than Kum and Go ever was.

I can vouch for the Ames part. That's where my sister lives. When I went to her wedding, there were hot college chicks errrrrwhere in that town.

Had to be careful when the wife was around.

As others said the people in Iowa and much of the midwest are nice. It's easier to make friends in Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana compared to Iowa and Minnesota.

Yes the food can be an issue if you're from Louisiana. But, all the food you need except for Crawfish and Oysters can be bought and all the spices you need can be bought in the stores. If you can cook cajun food you will be fine since most of the ingredients are there. You can make gumbo, shrimp étouffée, jumbalaya by buying the ingredients in grocery stores

They do sell "cajun" and andouille sausage there. It can be from Johnsonville, Hillshire. Farms, and other speciality sausage brands. It mainly comes vacuum packed, but it's not that bad. They sell Zatarain's in some bigger cities and grocery stores. I actually tell people its not that good. Too salty, and they add red dyes. I actually tell them to avoid Zatarain's and buy the other "cajun" sausages and add some spices yourself. They do sell packaged cajun spice mixes like Chachere's. But the spice aisle will have the spices you need.

My son and his family live along the Mississippi in a small town. Lots of Victorian homes; I love it there. The terrain is way different than I thought it would be. Corn tastes like it should, but the food is very bland. When he first moved up there, everybody told him to go to Maid-Rite-he thought he had Covid because it had no taste.

I would probably move up there, but I’m old and it’s icy

Don't even try it. It is a dry sloppy joe. I have no idea why it is popular

Different now in downtown DM. Many businesses completely out Wells Fargo, etc. skywalk is sketchy with homeless around. Suburbs are great.

If I were moving there, DM metro suburbs, Ames, Iowa city or Cedsr Falls. Cedar Falls is very underrated. Winters are not bad at all. And no Runza in Iowa!

Good, close enough to Lake Charles and Lafayette for many things.
