worst was probably at Turner where you sit in front of a firing squad of people firing questions at you for an hour or so.
I hate those. I interviewed with Alabama power for an entry level job right out of college.
There were like 10 different supervisors that sat in on the interview..... For an entry level job.

This seems common. When I was interviewing for an internship with FINRA, they had a panel of 3 PH.ds asking me stuff that I barely did in college.

I was shilling for the firm I was a lawyer at for oil and gas business trying to get a new client. All was going well and we were going to get the account until the final interview when one of the VP's just happened to be a guy I got fired at a previous client. He was grossly incompetent, but at this place he was married to the President's daughter. We did not get the account......worked out well though, the company filed for BK 9 mos later
Extremely awkward

Worst: I was brought in to audition for a new TV game show host. As I sat there in a non-descript, white room, on the black leather couch, in my brand new white dress, the interviewer started asking me weird questions like "where are you from," "have you ever been filmed before," "can you fit this banana in your mouth?" I didn't know what that had to do with being able to read questions off a cue card, but turns out, that banana wasn't the only thing that they intended for me to put in my mouth.
Best: Same as above, only this time it was an interview for a cereal commercial!

Had an interview for an "account manager" position right out of college at some place in Nashville. They end up taking me out to a po-dunk neighborhood doing door to door sales. I stopped the girl after the second house and told her this wasn't the job for me. She told me I was making a mistake because I didn't understand their business.

it lasted 6 hours
If a company waste 6 hours interviewing someone for the first time, it's probably a good thing they didn't hire you. That is 6 hours of unbillable work.. Well, I guess it all depends on the type of job or whatever, but damn, that was a wasted 6 hrs for them.. And you..

Thankfully, these jobs are now on facebook as peer to peer level marketing

quote:I certainly don't want to say that sounds easy, but I think I could do that well. I'd assume it was 15 topics in that field, so I'm sure I could hone in on one I know inside and out. Given 15 minutes, I could come up with a few main bullet points and talking points for each, assuming you got to use an index card or whatever? Either way, I think I could do that one.
I was once given 15 different topics and told that I had to come up with a 5 minute impromptu speech/presentation on one of the items. The interviewer left the room for 15 minutes while I put together my speech.
I just had an interview yesterday, and right when I sat down 1 person from the 3 person panel says, "Ok, sing us a song, and you have to be in key." Now, in general, that's a great icebreaker to start an interview. But she kinda kept it going after all the chuckles, almost to the point where I almost thought she wanted me to actually start singing so THEN she could say, "Haha, i'm just joking."
It was odd.

I absolutely hate phone interviews and I really suck at them. Heck I just hate talking on the phone in general. If someone wanted a phone interview I think I would just say I will pay my own way and meet you in person for an interview. Other than that, I have never had a problem with interviews.

Had an interview for a procurement job with a county in Florida in their department that deals with construction. Job post stated you didn't need experience in construction contracts, but the entire interview was questions about my experience, or lack their of, in managing construction contracts.

Every time I feel I fricked up on an interview, I get asked for a second interview while when I feel I killed it, I never get a call back.
My exact experience since my first interviews coming out of college, through 3 weeks ago.

I would not wish a strategy management consulting interview on my worst enemy.
Definitely got a lot out of it and prepared me very well for anything else that may lie ahead, but that process is like pulling teeth for several months.

My 1st semester in grad school for my MBA at UCF, you learn that you need to do an internship and have a certain amount of hours in that role to graduate. Luckily, there's basically a book that shows the available positions, and you work with your counselor on finding one. There's no interview or anything, the counselor just puts in the call and you get the internship(probably shoulda been a red flag lol)
Since I had previously worked summers/seasonal at Disney World, I chose this one internship with them, also assuming they should have a lot of opportunities when I graduate as such a big company. I wish I could remember the job title but I can't, very fancy of course.
My first day they ask me to show up at a hotel for training. I thought that was very odd since it wasn't a Disney hotel. Turns out, 1 of the jobs on the grad school list as an internship for a freaking MBA is to be one of those people who work in booths at hotels/restaurants in Orlando and beg you to buy their discounted Disney tickets.
The instant they told me what the job was, I told them I wasn't doing it, and I bailed.

Vince Marinello asking me why I took such a cheap shot on a player......

quote:Well, like I said, as an icebreaker, it's fine. You gotta come back with something funny, so I said something along the lines of, "I can probably sing a tune but I can promise it won't be in tune." haha haha haha, let's all make the fake laughts.
Would have said no thanks
At that point, we should have moved on, but she asked like 2 more time about singing the song, and I'm just like, seriously?

best: just talked about LSU Baseball for 30 minutes
worst: employer urged me not to wait too long to have kids to help "save the white race".

The funny part in that one though, it was a job for a company who dealt in foreign exchange, and on the wall in the lobby they had a frame on the wall that basically had a Euro in the middle with all of the currency(bills, maybe coins, I don't remember) from each country that uses the euro.
So when I leave the interview, I went to the restroom, and on my way out, I see the guy bringing in the next interview, one of the most absurdly hot chicks I'd ever seen, showing a totally inappropriate amount of cleavage from her huge boobs in a tight, low cut shirt. As they walk by that frame, he mentions the Euro, and she says she has no idea what it is, and he starts explaining it to her.
I didn't get the job, and I can't help but think that chick who didn't know shite about Forex got that job over me.
