re: Permanent Duck Blind Question - MrWhipple
With the price of lumber, might consider going old school and use 4” willow tree trunks instead of 4x4’s. They would last a few seasons and easily replaceable. We would use those in the marsh when landscape timbers were short at hand. ...

re: Teal Season Approaching - MrWhipple
Good push of birds today west of Houston. Ponds are holding 5-10x the birds that were there earlier in the week. Had a north wind in the dove field this afternoon, maybe they road that in. ...

re: Teal Season Approaching - MrWhipple
Thoughts and prayers to SWLA. We are seeing a good number of birds in TX (El Campo). They are showing up wherever we put on water. I would call it slightly below normal numbers at this time of year. I attribute that to an overall dry prairie in TX. Looking forward to next weeks front to pu...

re: Opening day of TX dove season! - MrWhipple
Sealy North location was 30% of what it was prior years. Sealy South location was 75% of previous. Limits on South side AM, PM limits for shooters with the high winds this evening. SWW Opener scouting looks solid to the south this weekend. ...

Duck/Goose in Canada this year - MrWhipple
Anyone one going up to sit through quarantine and then hunt? Anyone going up to hunt and saying f the quarantine? Thinking about working remote from there for 2 weeks and then hunt for a week. Sounds like that is doable based on the regulations that I read. Big fines if you break quarantine....

re: Filleting bream - MrWhipple
The FB guys method does not look faster than slabbing each side in a regular filet. It looks similar to the two finger dove breast rip. Which I am not a fan of because of waste. Agree with the guy that said they can roll through 50 in 20 mins and you probably end up with more meat. ...

re: When is the best time to go to Yellowstone and GNP? - MrWhipple
Look at Granite Park Chalet in GNP. You have to make reservations in Dec/Jan timeframe. We hiked in on Garden Wall and Highline Loop and then over Continental Divide out to SwiftCurrent. Takes a logistical effort with your vehicle and local buses but worth it. You carry in your food, the lodge h...

re: Need Light Work/Outdoor Pants - MrWhipple
Wore Carhatts for years, the lighter material kind; the last few I bought weren’t holding up the same. Switched to Duluth and so far so good. Wore their Engineer pants until it got hot. Wearing the firehouse Coolmax now. Good stretch, fit and cool. To be seen how well they hold up. Sig...

re: Reservation system for camp - MrWhipple
Give the google sheets a try before you go the free/cheap application route that has a crappie UI, no support and will disappear next year. I run a hunting club with LodgeRunner.com if you do want to look at an inexpensive reservation system. It is mainly geared for fly fishing lodges; but I’ve b...

re: Pellet Rifle? - MrWhipple
I have owned two break barrel Gamo’s. One was $70 and the other over $100. Both would not shoot a consistent grouping. Gave the last one to a friend for him to try to sight it in. Same results. I stepped up to a Benjamin Fortitude (pcp). Groupings at 20 yds are quarter sized. The scope and pum...

re: Squirrel Wars - MrWhipple
My FIL kept a trash can full of water to submerge the trap in order to dispatch the rats with fluffy tails. The squirrels in my neighborhood have taken a hit during the quarantine. Number 47 went down yesterday and new ones show up in my yard daily. Where do these things keep coming from? Not s...

re: 2020 hunting trips - MrWhipple
Othello WA - cool trip. I hunted Moses Lake a few years ago. The stay in the duck blind all day there if needed. Beautiful area. Pheasant opportunities too. Look up Paul’s Pond for duck hunting. It is in the area. That is worth the experience if you have an extra day and can get in. ...

re: Bearded Dragon?? - MrWhipple
Kids had one for 9 years. Great pet..never went to the vet, never barked and never had to let it outside. We used the crushed walnut substrate with no problems. Changed it out a few times a year. I built a custom cage that is actually for sale on Craigslist right now. Search for Reptile Cage H...

re: looking for advice on the disposition of a firearm collection - MrWhipple
Might want to talk to an auction house. The larger ones will cover the US for estates and will buy entire collections. This one handle guns, I know they will because the guy that runs it is a hunting buddy of mine: Simpson Galleries. 713.524.6751 Tell them you want to talk to someone about se...
