This. A friend of a friend who is a professional photographer just posted something on FB about people taking pictures (mostly with cell phones, some with tablets or cameras) while he was trying to do his job.
Besides getting in the way, he was saying a lot of times the other flashes screw up his shots--like when he's trying to take a picture of the dad walking the bride down the aisle, someone in a church pew takes a shot of the bride's back and the flash shows up in his picture.
I guess it's always happened, but with the prevalence of cell phone cameras, it happens more nowadays than it used to.
ETA: Unfortunately, just telling people not to take pics doesn't always work so maybe the bride/groom are taking the next step in "banning" cellphones.

I agree, but that should not have to be printed on the invitation.

I agree the ban is over the top, but I am enjoying the super cool anti-social media OT freak out that the couple doesn't want their wedding posted to social media before it even ends.

We asked people to keep photos of our newborn off social media and let us decide what goes out there. But no way would we tell people to not take their own pics.

Thats ridiculous. Sounds like a lot of odd characters planned that, which means the wedding will end in the joining of future divorcees.
Better option:
Just have the officiator make a quick announcement before the bridge and groom come out. Simple as that.

That is quite ridiculous. I could understand a request to stop people from taking pictures while people are walking down the isle and the like since people love to get in the way of the professional photographer that you are paying for.

There is little that make a wedding unenjoyable than a bridezilla in full bloom. They make EVERYONE miserable and smirk as if they think it is cute or something. It ought to be a clear sign to the groom to run for the hills.
Our son got married recently. I was dreading dealing with all the BS of the wedding but I have to say I am proud of the bride (and our son) and how they handled everything. Nothing fancy, no fuss, no demands - they just wanted a gathering of family and friends to celebrate their wedding. Her bridesmaids were told what color to wear and allowed to choose their own style of dress. I think that was the only thing that the bride really specified.
Everything was pretty much whatever was easiest on the family. Absolutely no stress at all, just love, joy and fun. Because of that, everyone was so thrilled to do everything to help give them an enjoyable wedding.
