Weird.

I understand asking people not to take photos. Some people even make a special insert requesting it because it fricks up the photographer when people use flash or stand in the way.

But telling people to leave their phone at home? That's weird.

If a photographer is getting paid 5k for 4-5 hours of work, he/she needs to figure it out. Any whining at that point falls on deaf ears. Sorry.

I understand working with the photographer and not flashing in church. I really do get that part.

It's their wedding. If you don't like it, don't go. Simple as that.

Exactly! The bride and groom don't want bad pictures of them and their family plastered all over facebook and they don't want people getting in the way of their professional photographer. The wedding is their special day. They can and should make the rules. If you care about them you should happily comply.

Geez I've never heard of anything like that outside of extremely famous people.

I can guarantee you that these are the type of narcissist that will have a gender reveal party.

What if you have kids at home and there is an emergency, but your phone was banned? Now you have a dead kid and the blood is on the hands of the bride.

I went to one last year that had a sign up at the reception with a hashtag on it, and asked people to add that to any pictures they post. Seems that would be the more normal thing these days, instead of an outright ban. But last I checked, this was America, and we can do whatever we want. I'm not leaving my phone in the car for some bridezilla on a power trip. I have two kids that would be staying with a sitter or my mother in law. Even if my wife doesn't take her phone somewhere, which happens a good bit, I always have mine in case we need to be reached.

And it can't be said enough, fall weddings should be banned, not cell phones.

Yes, this happened all the time when people went to weddings, funerals, movies, before there were cellphones.
