Weddings that "ban" cell phones

The gf just got a wedding invite from a pretty good friend of hers. On the invitation, it mentions that cell phones will not be allowed at the wedding or reception. Apparently, this is to keep pictures off of social media until the couple is ready to post their own. I understand saying "no pictures, please" but has anyone else encountered a "no phones allowed" wedding? I plan on bringing mine. I doubt they will be patting people down.

Who the frick do they think they are? Brad and Angelina? Jesus fricking christ this country is so self absorbed. No one gives a frick about their wedding.

If the intent is to have guests actually socially interact instead of sit on their phones this is a great idea

This request would make me tweet pictures from the wedding.

Very strange. Jennifer Anniston's wedding had fewer rules compared to this.

I would go and get sloppy drunk and take a ton of pics with my iPhone and post them all night long

Fair enough. Best wishes, guys.
I wouldn't decline the invite because I couldn't bring my phone, I'd decline it on principle.

Where are the events? I was invited to one that was on a military base and we had restrictions on access and cell phone use.

I'd roll up in that bitch with a go pro strapped to my head streaming on periscope and a selfie stick in my had to take up skirts of all the bridesmaids.
What a count.
What a count.

No, the intent it to keep pictures off of facebook before they post them. My point is: just say "hey, please don't post pictures online" You don't have to "ban" phones.

100% chance that the bride already has the grooms nuts in her purse.

I'm talking front row, hammered drunk, flash and camera sound on, during the vow exchange, rapid snapping and posting

A hotel downtown. No, not on a military base.
