didnt argue this again. Culture was not the right word to use and I was wrong.
People shape opinions on a person's speach. Doesn't make it a racist thing.
Fans think Les is dumb because he talks different than they do.

This kid had a chance to learn a valuable lesson over this. Follow the rules or deal with the consequences. However, he is surrounded by his dumbass family, all of whom are whining on TV and telling him it's ok. He could have easily walked if he'd have followed the rules set forth well in advance of the event.

OK: Shave your fricking face, you a-hole. shite if that's the school policy and they warn you 3 fricking times to do it or you won't walk, then shave. It's not as if it won't grow back.
What's next: An employee making the news for being fired for repeatably failing to follow the dress code? This generation has lost its fricking mind.
And the fact that their Valedictorian can't speak proper English speaks volumes for how shitty their school is. If all of his teachers failed to teach the valedictorian proper English, then as far as I'm concerned, everyone of them who taught him should be fired.

quote:Well according to THIS, the average ACT score among black students is 17/17.1. So assuming they have roughly the same variance (5.4 SD) as the entire population (it may be be even more variable), that would put a 21 at about the 77th percentile.
Yep. A 21 ACT is probably 90th percentile among black students. Many public HBCUs have average ACTs of around 18.

Ehh... it's not really a sign of intelligence or the lack of it. It really might just be a cultural thing.
That's bullshite when it comes to the valedictorian. No person who is the valedictorian should say "the teachers was saying". That is an utter failure of dozens of shitty teachers. Any teacher worth a damn should have stopped him mid-sentence from the time he was 6 every time that came out of his mouth. That says to me that the school is full of teachers who should be fired.

The topic at hand is why the best student in the school sounds like all the shitty students I went to school with.
Exactly. If the best this school has to offer is a student saying "the teachers was", then they need to all be canned. Their product is total shite. Listening to him talk, I feel almost confident that at point value my entire graduating class was smarter than him. I'm sure that's not actually the case, but the fact that he can't speak proper English at the end of his high school education means the system failed him and he was taught by people who should have never been allowed to teach in the first place. This is not acceptable for even the top half of a school (really none at all), nevertheless the valedictorian.

It could mean that he purposely talks like that because that is how his peers talk, as in he makes a choice. Or it could mean that the school system failed. Either way, it does not necessarily mean that he is stupid, which was the assertion. Either way the assumption that he is stupid, which is what the comment said is wrong.
It shouldn't be a shocking revelation that ignorance and stupidity are not the same thing.

How did he get a an A in English when he doesn't speak english properly?
He could be a genius in math, science, and social studies, but his public speaking and grammar makes me questions his grades in the courses that require those skill sets to succeed.

Didnt realize someones accent represents a certain culture level. I know extremely well spoken individuals who arent smart at all.

Lower economic redneck culture is an example. It is an abysmally disgraceful culture.

anyone who gets caught up with GPA is a joke, considering most of the time teachers grade based on how well they like a student.

I agree but why wouldn't the administrators make students abide by the policy while at school?
