You are correct sir, if you live in Tangipahoa, your schools are a joke. Part of the joke is the school board clown show. This is a school board that had to shut down corporal punishment because they were beating kids whose parents sent forms not allowing it. Then wasting money on tons of lawyer fees for a desegregation case that the public doesn't know jack about because they only meet on the issue behind closed doors to nothe give away their "case". Then, after wasting millions with their ignorance and malfeasance, they cry like babies when the tax payers won't renew or approve taxes. They are left to making the news only by strong arming poor kids who just want to give a valedictorian speech. The dollar store it .1 miles away, get the kid a razor and stay out the dam news being arse holes.

Kid should have shaved. If he played baseball for George Steinbrenner he'd never be allowed in the dugout until he shaved.

I agree but why wouldn't the administrators make students abide by the policy while at school?

Because the parents and families of the students don't sit in a gym and watch every student walk by on a daily basis. If there is ever a day they're going to enforce the dress code, it is graduation.

I could be valedictorian if I were 27, too.

No doubt, I bet George would say get the kid a razor. My point is if they cared about the kid, which should be their attitude, they would have found a solution and had the kid walk. For Klowe to give a "we told him three times" excuse is what's wrong here. Proper response: kid showed up with improper facial hair, said it was misunderstanding, shaved sides but not chin. We provided him with a bathroom, razor, and cream. We are all very disappointed he chose to not shave at that point and we were forced to turn him away. I am very sad for him.
Clown show over here bro.

If this person had a 4.0 our schools are a joke.

15 years or so ago, I attended the Louisiana statewide Student of the Year competition. The winner was some hillbilly frick who spent the whole time talking about breeding rabbits for 4H.

Another finalist was some kid from New Orleans who was asked about something regarding the State Quarters series they released back then. About halfway through a nonsensical response his eyes lit up and in an almost comical, right out of the Confederacy of Dunces, borderline Nic Cage in Con-Air accent, said "OOOOHHhhhhh, I thought you was talkin bout the French Quarter"

Both kids were white btw.

That part in the video where his mom strokes his beard is a little weird.
Family seems trashy.
Also, to me his speech is a little more than just dialect.
Improper subject/verb agreement, using "ain't"..fine for normal use between friends/family..but you're on the NEWS broadcasting that you didn't follow a policy. At least make yourself sound coherent.

What I keep seeing over and over is a group of students who defy school policies (facial hair, hair length, etc.,) and parents who have no shame at all and call news stations to defend their little darling's right to break the rules.

If I didn't walk because I broke a rule, my family would be pissed at ME. Not at the school. They surely wouldn't call the news, they would be too ashamed.

The solution was for the kids to follow the rules.

When they tell him next year that he loses TOPS after failing his freshman English class, what will you say then?

What I keep seeing is a public education system teaching the youth of America to be subordinate to authority.

What does facial hair have to do with education? Nothing.

But it does teach the youth to lick boots, so when they become adults they can then lick the boots of government.

I see it every day.

We had tons of stupid rules in school.
I got in trouble once for wearing a light blue shirt instead of navy blue.
Girl got sent home for wearing a turtleneck sweater because it was gray instead of black.

Leaning back in your chair? Two swats.

So yeah, we were taught to respect authority and whatever they say you do it. And now as an adult, I have to follow rules that also don't make sense to me.
But I do it cause I need the paycheck.

That's life.

I'm not going to crack on a guy who made a 4.0 because he is ebonically-impaired. Too many legitimate things in our schools to be worried about. BTW, imho, a 4.0 is a pretty good indication he plays well with others and has a certain level of character and determination. Even if his school sets a low bar, he stands out.

I know the valedictorian of my class ended up failing out of LSU and working at Calendars before becoming a stay at home mom.... being valedictorian means nothing.

That's very well put, but you need to add to it. It's also authority that gets a good feeling from using their authority. It's a ripe situation for the govt to put people in line, coupled with employees whose biggest job perk is getting summers off and having authority over others.

You're right. This guy is probably the next Bill Gates, what am I thinking..I'm so foolish to follow instructions, obtain a graduate degree, and keep a job so I can pay my bills.

Clearly I should break any rules that I don't think are important.
I think marijuana should be legal, so I guess I'll go home and smoke tonight.
And when I get drug tested at work, I'll just say it should be legal anyways, and smoking weed on the weekends has nothing to do with my performance Monday-Friday.

Ya know, you don't have to keep illustrating my point.

Stay subservient, it is doing you well.

How did he get an A in English when he doesn't speak english properly?

* Shocker*-High school students take and learn Spanish, still speak English.
This is more a where he lives/ fitting in with his friends/ being normal than being stupid.

I typically will side with schools on a lot of these stories but his facial hair was well shaped in that video and he didn't look insane. I would have more issue with his hair than his goatee. This was a dumb one and i am sure the school will have to pay him money or some bullshite.
