yeah i tell this story a lot but it was truly foundational
senior year we had to go to an inner city high school for a quiz bowl tourney
they had a board celebrating all their 20+ ACT scores. there were like maybe 5 kids and the highest was probably 21 or 22. that put a lot of shite in perspective for me

Yep. A 21 ACT is probably 90th percentile among black students. Many public HBCUs have average ACTs of around 18.
