I think that looking at the current recruiting class vs this year's roster, that Oats has made a slight philosophy change at guards/wings. This current team is full of snipers. But with these great shooters, we're giving up something else, either size or athleticism.

The new crop seen very athletic, but not as much of natural shooters. I'm thinking Oats feels it'll be easier to teach an athlete how to shoot, than it is to teach a shooter how to play good defense. Similar to the NBA philosophy of draft on potential instead of current skill levels.

We know how our system is effective, because it's what every NBA team is running. I guess the million dollar question is, our college players skilled enough to win in this system at this level. Especially when the championship is a single elimination versus a best of 7.

This year was a perfect storm of injuries and missed evals in the front court . It'll be interesting to see what kind of tweaks oats makes. And if we were really in the bottom third of team salaries like had been reported, we've actually been pretty damn successful. That said, we should never be that low in team salary either.

Oats is the best coach we've ever had - and I appreciate all he has done - but he can be beyond idiotic with his stubbornness to call timeouts and his lineups when momentum starts to shift in the wrong direction. It killed us vs San Diego State, UCLA, and Duke.
it's always been my only real complaint. I can understand early in the year, as teaching moments. But not at the end of the year.

At 10 minutes it was at -6.5. Right now it's at -4.5
I'm disappointed. I figured Biz would be smart enough to wrap a wet washcloth around the smoke detector. That's amateur shite. That, or get a hunibadger or seahorse, and only do dabs in hotel rooms.

I'd still make that trade with Allen as a freshman and Reid as a sophomore.
Watching UF/Kentucky and now UNC/Duke, I can't help but think we really got fricked in our frontcourt by losing Diaboute and Stevenson. I still don't really see either as a starter over Allen, but they'd have gotten big minutes.

This is why you’d actually maybe rather have several top 20-40 guys than a top 3 guy. They cost a ton and mostly are just waiting for the draft.

I like recruits ranked in the 70s. That seems to be our sweet spot for landing NBA talent.

Thinking about next years team, bigs are in short supply it seems to me. We are guard and wing heavy.

Finally back to what I wanted to discuss. We don't seem to be in on any uncommitted centers or PGs. From what I've seen online, it looks like every one of our targets has committed somewhere else. It makes me really pissed that the munchkin signed the Ratliff twins. That would've made for great frontcourt depth and chemistry.

My guess is we be portalin' for those positions. Legit talent likely will appear. And no need to get desperate to sign anyone this early. Our previous transfers have done very well for themselves. So I expect we'll have a lot of interest.

My personal opposition to it goes beyond just the social aspects of a school like BYU vs. a secular institution. A lot of athletes just don't really understand or care about the distinction between being paid and being used. There is no secondary motivation beyond winning games and making money for an NBA franchise. BYU athletics however pulls double duty as the sportswashing arm of a religious cult with an all time great PR game. It's certainly not as bad as all the golfers and soccer players who take literal blood money to make the Saudis look good, but the goal for BYU athletics is undeniably to both win games and serve as a promotion of Mormonism. Dybantsa is literally allowing himself to be used by a cult to promote itself through him. frick that.

The mormons are a but culty. But at least they're friendly. And I don't think their sportswashing is any worse than Liberty University, which was founded by an absolutely vile human. And then there's Oral Roberts University, where they teach prosperity gospel. I'd rather my child be an atheist or any other religion than "worshipping" with school bastards such as Joel Osteen or Kenneth Copeland (both are alumni). Those universities are the preach the kind of Christianity that have made people turn away from religion, and are in for a rude awakening when they reach the pearly gates.

The extra money isn’t worth the ick I would feel especially if I know I’m about to be a multi multi millionaire soon anyway.

You think that's "ick", but we're talking the same people who negotiated an ownership state in the prep school he played at his senior year in Utah. They're shameless as frick.

And the reason he got up to $6-7.5 million, is because he used Bama as leverage to get more money, even though he'd already signed with BYU. As I said, shameless as frick.

At least with Jase, we had a great backup plan in Philon.

So, do they get Dong Daily and Doug Shows in the ACC?

Yeah, I've seen the billboards. I figured that steak was probably full of grizzle.

I actually did get some pretty damn good bbq in Amarillo at Tyler's.

Give players 5 years to play 4 starting at age 18.

Maybe make it 19. There's plenty of people with late birthdays it other reasons that graduate high school at 19. Brandon Miller was one of them (though obviously he didn't need 4 seasons).

He's projected mid first round in a lot of mock drafts. I'm a little surprised, but the kid is a winner

He's currently anywhere from about 20-40. The only thing that's keeping him from being a guaranteed first round pick, is that this draft is absolutely fricking loaded. Probably the deepest I can remember seeing.

The Patriot League is obviously a big step down from the SEC, but it's still D1 basketball and he was their POTY last season. It would be completely understandable if he was just an average bench quality player at this level, but he's essentially a walk-on in terms of contributions. I don't think a single coach anywhere in the country would watch any D1 conference's POTY and come away with the impression that he can barely play basketball.

All this. And go back and watch analysis videos from after he entered the portal and committed. A bunch of people thought he was a top 2-3 big man in the portal. He was the #39 transfer on on3 and #4 C. Him being this shitty is actually pretty shocking.

Both have never been close to being top 32 by enrollment. The cutoff was Buckhorn at 1032. Clay is sitting at 952, Pinson at 740.

Lol. My high school had 2400+ freshman in my class, and 4200+ total. Pretty much all the central Florida high schools had at least 4k students.

Reciprocated? The GOP started this with Texas under Trump's command. The Dems surprisingly decided to fight fire with fire, rather than bend over and spread their cheeks, like usual.
