USPS is being sabotaged by a postmaster general who has millions in USPS competitors.

Privatize is the dumbest answer

So is screaming about how USPS is unprofitable.

Look up the requirements for USPS and their pension fund and you'll see why they don't make money

But sure, let's put the mailing system in the hands of a corporation that only wants to make a profit

I am currently waiting on a package that has been to my post office from the sorting center 3 times as of this morning. The mail has already come and still no package. I pulled up the tracking number and it said it was sent to baton rouge sorting facility, and had a red "in error" next to it. I live in Ascension and so far the package has been to NOLA, Baton Rouge and Lafayette all while in between being sent to the right post office for delivery.

Have used USPS a good bit lately. Have not encountered any issues.

That's my anecdotal experience.

Every time I see an item is being shipped USPS I just prepare for a lengthy wait.

I have a package that USPS has had since July 27th. Hasn't moved since August 1st.

The kicker is I ordered this item and it shipped from China. Between the Chinese postal service and now USPS, it's been in transit 114 DAYS.

Oh you haven't heard? Trump appointed a new postmaster general. No overtime allowed and he has been decommissioning working mail sorting machines from branches all over the US.

Overall, I've had far fewer problems with USPS than I have with UPS. UPS has taken a nosedive, and there has been no limit to their frickups of late.

I automatically add a week shipping time to anything I order that is shipped by UPS, particularly that UPS Sure Post bullshite. They cover their asses with that one by passing it to the USPS, but I have had two packages the past couple weeks that have gone off the rails before they were ever handed off to the USPS for final delivery. Don't call UPS.....that mouthy recorded bitch on the customer service line will hang up on you if you keep demanding to speak to an operator with an actual pulse.

There are many dedicated postal employees but the situation is too political.
For example, my neighborhood, as too many others, is a walking route. This is obviously very inefficient and all mailboxes should be on the curb and converted to a motor route.
The same with automatic postal machines. They should be in every post office and other retail establishments because they can be used at any time.
There are many other examples.

Good

Make them accountable and more efficient since they're bleeding $.

Get better or shut it down.

I am sure there were serious issues that led to employees being extremely inefficient in order to get OT...we are talking about government employees

They lost 8.8bn last year
COVID wasn't a thing last year.

They lost 3.9bn in 2018
2.7 in 2017
5.6bn in 2016
5.1bn in 2015

See a trend?

USPS is an antiquated system, like most government agencies.

Democrat solution: Change nothing, increase funding.

GOP solution: Reduce funding further, make no intentional changes, but allow underfunding to degrade service, which is in fact an unplanned change.

Whereas the real solution is to reboot the USPS for the 21st century. Make the necessary changes to make it work for the next 50 years. That will require some one-time investment, but will result in long-term savings.

But democrats never want to change, and republicans never want to invest.

The new postmaster general's background is logistics... but he owns a lot of stock in UPS and trucking companies. So it's definetly a weird conflict of interest.

No, just small business owners and elderly citizens that rely on the Post Office to survive.
