You get to hold the kid; don’t pick a fight with your post-partum daughter just because she doesn’t want you to act like Joe Biden around it
As others have said, let her go through the first time parenting jitters. You’ll get to smooch your grandkid in no time. Congrats btw

HSV is mainly an embarrassment for adults but can be deadly for a young child. And people can shed the virus without having any visible symptoms like a cold sore.
Also, do you really want to aggravate your daughter who just gave birth?

Tell your daughter she’s grounded.

We arent born with peanut allergies and the earlier you are exposed the better chance you won't have a reaction.

Never heard of this, but give your daughter her wish. Being a grandparent is the most awesome feeling in the world.

Yea, this isn’t an RSV or cold issue.
It has to do with herpes.
Not a controversial topic at all.
All this talk about “we did these things and it was fine” is hilarious when infant mortality was 32 per 1000 in 1950 ands it is 5 per 1000 live births now.

Yes, this was pretty heavily drilled in by hospital staff. A steady fever in the first three months means an ER visit. Not only should you keep your face away from them at the beginning, but you should wash your hands before holding them as well
Fever under 21-28 days, depending on the physician (newer research says under 21 days, although 28 is the more common accepted age), is automatic blood work and lumbar puncture with antibiotics and admission.

Our experience was (all 3 of our children) when the first one came, we were met with all kinds of rules and prohibitions.
By the time the third child came, the kid was passed to us like we were wide receivers and the parents were quarterbacks.
They'll calm down eventually.

Two of my dearest friends just went through this.
Trust me- the minute they figure out what it’s like to have no help, baby won’t sleep, mom and dad can’t do anything they used to do anymore…..they will come begging paw paw and maw maw to help….you’ll be cuddling and kissing that grandbaby in no time.

When your first child walks in holding a butcher knife you sit down and explains the dangers by cutting some paper.
When your second child walks in holding a butcher knife you say, "be careful you don't hurt yourself"
When your third child walks in holding a butcher knife you say, "you better not cut any furniture!!!"

I had a crazy sister that wouldn't even let anyone come close to her newborn until they showed her their vaccination records. This was pre-Covid. I don't even remember which shot you had to have had within the last few years, but apparently I had one, but still told her I'd wait till it was safe. That was her first child. People would let their 3rd newborn child roll around on the floor in a nasty restaurant and not care.

We've got a doctor telling us that daughter is right, but lots of anecdotes saying "I ain't never heard of no baby kissing rules and we turned out fine!" I wonder who has more expertise on this one.

my son is a doctor and daughter in law is a nurse so i trust them to know way more than me.
that being said anyone that wanted to see our granddaughter when she was born had to be vaccinated.
this being our first grandchild i was gonna do whatever it took to see her at the birth.
once she reached a certain age they relaxed alot but this new generation is something else!
have some friends that got a 3 page email on all the rules for newborn so i guess it could be alot worse.
even feedings and food are totally different for new generation.
told my wife i have no idea how we raised 2 boys without killing them after seeing how newer generation are raising kids.

People that are first time parents who were raised the right way yet act like they know more than their parents are one of my biggest pet peeves.

If you are going to be one of those grandparents that thinks they know better and doesn’t listen to what the parents want, be prepared to spend a lot less time with your new grandkid.
It’s their kid, not yours.

if my kids told me that, i'd slap their face again like it did when they were young.
