On one hand, yes this is a new normal thanks to more widespread knowledge that viruses like cold sores can be spread to the baby at a time when he/she can't fight it off.
On the other hand, frick that. I'm kissing my grandbaby.
On my third hand, respect your daughter's wishes.

Proof of what? Getting the booster? No, we didn't ask to see proof that they got it, but one set of grandparents worked in healthcare and the other set is health conscious too. I have no reason to believe they didn't go get a booster. I'm not sure why you think a Tdap booster is an unreasonable demand for people who will be around the baby in its first few weeks of life, before its immune system is fully formed.

Yeah I’m sure it is terrible but you’re talking about a fraction of a percent of this happening. You also can no way pin it on someone holding a baby.

The fact that 90% of whooping cough deaths occur in those under one year?
The fact that those under 3 months are more likely to require hospitalization or the ICU with severe pertussis and the mortality rate of those under 3 months with severe pertussis is over 30%.
I’m just kinda curious when this becomes something you would care about.
You do you, buddy,
Stick it to the big bad medical industry.

Where did I say this?
People can also use common sense and just say if you’re feeling sick please let us know. The fact someone would tell a loved one, someone you’d let hold your kid, to get a booster or Covid vax is absolutely unreal. Again those same people aren’t demanding proof to enter their home and I bet the people they asked laughed at them behind their back. I also find it weird you’d try to have control over someone like that.

We are talking about tdap.

If you think that is unreasonable and you would laugh behind their backs by “tricking them”, buddy, that says WAY more about you and your character than that of the parents.

Just respect their wishes and wait to see the baby.
I find it weird that you would want to exert your control over the situation when it isn’t even your child.

Tdap vaccine is not Covid vaccine
Pertussis rates are up significantly (greater than 30k cases) because of Tdap hesitancies.

It’s not, I was discussing both. Don’t act like that wasn’t ever done in the name of the same thing just recently or some freaks don’t request that still.

Asking close family to get Tdap before you have a baby has been a thing for at least ten years. Probably longer just 10 years is exact moment I was first exposed to my SIL asked us too

How many piercings and tattoos does your daughter have? Her hair blue? Drives a car with Biden/Harris sticker?

So why wasn’t it done commonly before that? Thanks for identifying the issue of those having kids aged 16-26 of why this is being done.

I can’t say if it was or wasn’t, that’s just when I was around someone close enough to invite me into their home to see a baby that just got home. I am sure people were requesting it before then, my SIL didn’t make it cool I can assure you that
05 was when the vaccine became available for adults so probably became increasingly common year after year

There was no pertussis booster for adults.
Before that, you had to wait for the infants first vaccine at 2 months.

And before that nobody required their family to show papers and babies lived

Even more babies are living now.
I guess you have an issue with that, which is weird.

Actual truth is exposing kids to germs and virus while young toughens them up for the long haul, Don’t want a bubble baby it will suffer everything when first going to school.
Christ.
When they’re older and have an actual immune system- yes. But newborns practically have nothing except (I think) mom’s antibodies. You can’t strengthen and toughen up what’s not there yet.
This would be saying it’s a good idea to expose a cancer patient that has had their white blood cell count zapped from chemo to the cold or flu virus to get them into fighting shape.

I love my kids but I was there when they crawled out of their mama's cooter....until they had a healthy dose of hot water and some head and shoulders applied to that mess and rinsed thoroughly ain't no way Ida kissed their damned old nasty assed head.....
I have some friends who just became grandparents this past week and they were told the same thing. It broke their hearts....they thought it was an indictment on their raising of their daughter....as most parents do they immediately thought "oh shite, how did we damage this person this badly". It was so bad that the grand mother called my wife squalling and saying they would never speak to their daughter again...yes, she is a bit of a drama queen but otherwise good people. She called back later and told my wife that it was common today and is thought to protect the infant from illnesses it has no natural immunity from in the first few months of life. It kind of makes sense really but the doctors ought to warn grandparents LOL.
When my daughter was born, about three hours after her birth, the nurse told me to take off my shirt....I was put out but also intrigued thinking I had read this story in a penthouse forum in the 70s. That wasn't what she had in mind. She had me remove my shirt, sit back in the recliner in the room, laid my daughter on my chest with nothing on but a diaper and covered us in a blanket. She (they?) called it "Kangarooing" and said it helped the babies immune system develop and transferred some immunity from father to child. I do not know about that but I do not know I have never, in 61 years, been more relaxed and at peace with the world than those few hours spent over the next couple of days 'kangarooing" with my new born daughter. They didn't do it that I am aware of when my son was born - I didn't for certain - but if anyone is expecting anytime soon ask about it....I promise it won't land you in jail - and it is an incredible experience I wouldn't trade for 10 years of health.
