Pretty soon that kid is going to be licking handrails in public spaces. It’ll be ok.

Just be happy if it has 10 fingers and 10 toes. The rest is lagniape.

Tell your daughter to breastfeed. You could put a breastfed baby to sleep in the garbage and it would be fine.

It’s both overkill and not weird or political. My wife was terrified our kids would get RSV. She didn’t have any firm rules but she consumed a ton of stuff that advised stuff like this and obsessed pretty hard.
They did in fact get RSV and we each spent 2 weeks in the PICU and barely missed being put on vents. I wouldn’t take it personally.

I just found it odd that I am being told that I can't kiss my grandchild on the forehead while I am holding him/her. I'm 58 and never heard that before.

She plans on it and I keep telling her that anything she puts in her body goes to the baby too.

It’s not forever. It’s for a few weeks. You’ll get plenty of chances to kiss her on the forehead later

RSV is a big deal. Something that doesn’t even bother healthy adults or older children can seriously cause problems in a newborn.
Her kid, her rules. Comply and congratulations.

Absolutely. She is following her doctor's advice, mainly because it will be her first so she's nervous.
You sound soft. My first grandchild I took him out of my daughter's hands in the hospital kissed him right on the forehead and held him out while I was in a Heisman pose and told my wife to get a picture. Don't believe a word doctor's tell you.
Btw I made all that up I didn't kiss him

You daughter has fallen victim to TikTok. Don't worry, for the second kid, she'll be much less paranoid. Just wait for the rest of the restrictions you're about to get.
I was just worried about my first not getting typhoid from my mom that got it twice in Afghanistan before general vaccinations. I won't talk shite about how soft your daughter is, but ....
Kiss your granddaughter on the forehead anyway. You're not sticking a finger in their mouth. Your daughter is likely going to be so wasted they won't notice after birth.

This is incredibly serious, and anybody telling you otherwise is plainly ignoring science. See this link for more info:
LINK
All of us born before 1995 are likely colonized with chickenpox/varicella virus in our nerve roots, which will one day come out and manifest as shingles.
Those born after 1995 likely do not have live chicken pox virus living dormantly in those nerve roots, as most people born after 1995 have been vaccinated against chicken pox.
Upwards of 80 to 90% of us in the US are colonized with HSV-1 in our oral cavity. It becomes active when you get a cold sore, which is when you are most likely to shed the live virus, but it is always living in your nerve roots, many times in your oral cavity, waiting for an opportunity to cause active infection.
Newborn babies are very susceptible to both varicella and HSV, which can cause permanent brain damage, epilepsy, dissement of HSV disease, or even death.
If you're ignoring your daughter's request, you are not not respecting the wishes of your family, and you're not willing to do everything possible to protect your newborn grandbaby.

My oldest son was in the Hospital for over a week for RSV when he was a toddler. Lots of breathing treatments and prayers got us through it

Danger - that’ll cause a serious lack of feeling loved…which can
Lead to many potential mental disorders…. Look it up….
2- immune buildup is necessary… keeping them germ free may not allow immune system buildup
I pray for a breakthrough for you and family.
