Skin to skin contact is heavily pushed now both for mom and dad. Also supposed to be good for bonding and helping the newborn regulate.

Pretty common instruction from the docs these days.
Not saying we followed it, especially after the 1st one, but your daughter is not being crazy, just listening to her docs and a first time mom.

My generation would take it as a joke and roll in the hospital with a Jason or IT mask on and kiss my grandchild. Make it “traumatic” for my kid.

It’s actually a smart practice. My 5th grandchild is on the way and both my daughters are adamant about not kissing them as infants

We were less cautious with the one second and I’ll tell you when she was sick in first few days and they had to do a spinal tap it was very tough on us. Sure she does not remember but we do.

I have no intention of going against my daughter's wishes. It just struck me and her mother as odd as we had never heard of that issue. Apparently, I am learning on the fly.

I looked it up after I posted.
Sounds like a lot of that is just due to improved neonatal care.
I can’t get on board with quarantining a child from his/her grandparents.

Sorry, but this is nonsense. Every kid, grandkid, and great grandkid in my family was hugged and kissed as a baby.
None of them died from Ebola or scurvy, none had any medical issues from it
Just more BS from the same “trust the science” loons who can’t articulate what a woman is.

We used to put pillows in babies' cribs and rub bourbon on their gums for teething too. A bunch of people survived, so that must've been safe, right?

I have some friends who just became grandparents this past week and they were told the same thing. It broke their hearts....they thought it was an indictment on their raising of their daughter....as most parents do they immediately thought "oh shite, how did we damage this person this badly". It was so bad that the grand mother called my wife squalling and saying they would never speak to their daughter again...yes, she is a bit of a drama queen but otherwise good people. She called back later and told my wife that it was common today and is thought to protect the infant from illnesses it has no natural immunity from in the first few months of life. It is ignorance of medicine and ignorance of statistics all wrapped into one confident package of being incorrect.

We used to put morphine in baby bottles to help them sleep. We used to dip pacifiers in honey.
Not everyone died.
They can choose to listen to recommendations or not, but they have become so anti-medicine that they are the blue-haired loons they hated in the early 2000s.
