Any suggestions?
Be professional in the process. Don't say what you say in the OP. Just discuss looking for more stable profession.

Who in their right mind wants to work some shite schedule in west Texas doing bullshite field “engineering” work instead of a job that pays the same or more on 40 hours a week that is actually mentally stimulating, and in a city so you can have a social life?

like investment banking when you have zero experience and a petroleum engineering degree

Sorry about your struggle baw. I'm 25 and make around half that and I'm enjoying my life okay, even have managed to save around $25K.

I have a friend who graduated in ME and worked for an engineering firm for 2 years then jumped into investment banking. He did very well.

It’s definitely not for everyone but you can make serious money with little experience. To 22 year old me it was a dream job. Now that I have a family it’s definitely not enticing.
The quotes around engineering are definitely warranted. The only things we engineered were ways to sneak booze on the rig

The frick?
I make 82k as a single guy and have a nice house, nice truck that’s paid off, a speed boat and enough disposable income to eat out a lot and have a good time on weekends

Wait... 80k?
Dude, that's plenty of fricking money.
Both my parents retired making less than what you are starting out with.

This should be the major topic of this thread. Dude been here six years and waited until this whinny fricker showed up crying before he posted

Dude read an article saying PETE majors make 100k straight out of college. Unfortunately he didn’t realize you have to do extremely well in school and networking and then grind and prove yourself once you get handed your diploma. Zero sympathy for him.

You have much to learn young grasshopper

No it’s not. That 100k + only happens when you work for an operating company like shell, Exxon. Only 10-15% of the graduating class out of 200 people get those jobs. When you don’t get that, you are working for peanuts in the middle of nowhere for service companies hat makes places like Baltimore and north Baton Rouge feel like heaven.
Gray, why don’t you get on with a consulting firm? That’s what my brothers and I do and I can tell you business is a booming. Some of our petroleum & process engineers do better that their counterparts at Exxon, Shell, BP

So you are saying prices are not higher today than they were in 2016-17?
Not sure about the company you work for or anything, but if you really are a PE, it sounds like you just don't like the job and making excuses as to why you don't want to be one anymore.
