There's too many PM's with engineering degrees that don't know enough about the industry to put together a project

It sounds like this guy would fit right in

This is also Telecom in a nutshell.

I don't know why OP is getting shite on. Nothing he has said so far is inaccurate. Field engineering and the service industry in general is terrible. Low pay, high hours, and scant advancement opportunities are the norm. The turnover is ridiculous because of the working conditions. Service companies are the Dollar General of oilfield employers for engineers. OP's only strike is staying on for so long. I don't know any engineer worth a damn that's stayed at one longer than 4 years.

Man that’s probably because US News and all other sites say petroleum engineers make a load of money. It’s true but that’s because most petroleum grads don’t fall into that category. They fall under the Field Engineer category. If people googled the pay and working conditions for that, they would know what I was talking about.

If

1- you're in Midland/Odessa area AND
2- Have a low income AND
3- Have no work/life balance

Then you're retarded. You should be able to trade #2 for #3 or #3 for #2 easily.

There’s nothing wrong in asking the OT so I can pick up other skills and move to other industries. 80K after taxes doesn’t get you anywhere these days. I’m not a Boomer

Be happy with living comfortably, and quit spending your days off at the casinos. You'll be much happier. For those who work with you, I hope you aren't being a PITA because you mumble this crap all day long, because I can tell you they are sick of hearing it.

Yeah no reason you should have no life in midland and not pull in 100k easy. Just doesn't make sense the money is there

’m making around 80k working 3 weeks on (11-14 hour shifts) and 1 week off in West Texas. All those computer science people with 2-3 years of experience are making 100k + working 40 hours. All of them...

You're making really good money and the dudes making $100k+ usually work at the top tech companies.

You need to get some perspective before you screw yourself. Sounds like you think you deserve more money.

Whats even worse is that after looking at his threads started history, he was in school less than a year ago. So in less than a year out he is making 80k after taxes and isnt happy with that. what in the shite

Wait this guy just graduated and he's already complaining about how awful the field life is? What did he expect

And 80K starting out is perfectly fine and probably better than most. Should increase pretty quickly depending on who he works for

He should probably just quit now sounds like he won't last long

I already shut this chump down yesterday. He’s either lazy or barely graduated with a degree. Probably both. Which put him on the very bottom of the totem pole

As a Construction Management grad, you 100% do not need that degree to have success.

Why not get on at a chemical plant working as a project engineer at first and then moving into mechanical or chemical?

Should be able to get 80+ pretty easily, work 40, at most 50 hours per week and sleep in your own bed every night. Plus awesome bonuses and benefits.

Might be a little more baw then you are used to working with those pussies on the rigs, but you will adjust.

"I’m asking what would I need to learn and do to be given an opportunity to do investment banking."

I would start by learning how to live well on $80k
