Trying to get out of Oil and Gas

Good Morning baws,
I graduated in Petroleum Engineering not too far ago. I absolutely despise it and feel that I am wasting precious years of my life. The industry will never be what it was like before 2014. Oil prices have been down for 5 straight years. Pay sucks and work life balance sucks and I’m looking to get out. I don’t see a future in this. Oil and Gas still isn’t going anywhere but the opportunities have become very limited...
I’m trying to transition to other industries without going back to college. Any suggestions?
Looking into Investment banking, computer science, and consulting type jobs.

Uber....but technically you’ll be using oil and gas to get people around though

How about the natural gas industry? They will be constructing pipelines and terminals for the next 10 years and then operating into the future.
Petroleum engineering degree can translate into construction management if you have the field experience.

No it’s not. That 100k + only happens when you work for an operating company like shell, Exxon. Only 10-15% of the graduating class out of 200 people get those jobs. When you don’t get that, you are working for peanuts in the middle of nowhere for service companies hat makes places like Baltimore and north Baton Rouge feel like heaven.

No offense, but can you list numbers here?
Like what are you making and what is your work schedule?
Then, what would you like/what is reasonable.

You are ignorant and lazy.
That’s the best advice I can give you.
Godspeed.

Consulting is fun in that you don't really do anything but charge high fees. The trick is convince everyone that what you have to say is worth the exorbitant amount of money that you charge.

Weren’t you asking what industries drug test a few days ago?

You’re whining like a bitch would whine. Compose yourself.

Yes I was. Didn’t fail it but was tired of being constantly tested.
I’m making around 80k working 3 weeks on (11-14 hour shifts) and 1 week off in West Texas. All those computer science people with 2-3 years of experience are making 100k + working 40 hours. All of them...

You are so full of shite. I guarantee you that 95% of your coworkers don’t like you at all. Pay sucks!? What you making 80k? That’s pretty good for a recent college grad. You’re probably a spoiled rich kid that can’t afford the same life style you’re accustomed to back when daddy was paying for it. What a puss. Just quite. No one likes you or likes working with you anyway. I’d love to meet you at sonic, I’d check you ole son. You little beta boy

I just got a job in development. It was actually rather difficult to land a job despite having 10+ years with the company and a BBA-CIS degree and a good base knowledge of most things IT. But there's no reason to go back to school to learn an aspect of IT. There are several websites that give very inexpensive and robust classes on whaever it is you want to learn. I used Udemy to learn networking and security principals a couple of years ago. I currently use pluralsight when I need to figure something out in C# or SQL. Both of those sites have endless courses on any element of IT you want to learn.
From my perspective, development positions seem to be the most readily available jobs in IT. It pays comparably to most positions based on experience. Networking and Security might pay a little more, but work from home opportunities rarely exist since you're generally working with physical equipment. Database Administrators make a $#it ton of money but those guys have to know DB management intricately. It isn't a one or two year study and you're in. It's years and years before you get to the DBA level from what I've observed.
Bad part about IT is, you either get it or you don't. It requires a different way of thinking that is sometimes hard to wrap your head around. You often have to Terrantino your thought process and think from the end result backwards.
I am nowhere near investment banking, but it seems like our finance dept (for the jobs worth having) really harp on education and experience. You're likely going to go backwards before going forwards if you go to investment banking. May be the same for IT depending on where you're at currently but entry level IT work is generally close to double that of entry level anything-else.
TL:DR - Learn to code.
ETA - Didn't pay attention to the OP, but still free advice to anyone who wants it.

The oil and gas market is tough, but way too many people are using the $100+/barrel as the bench mark and $50-75 oil as a recession marker. The oil boom several years ago was the exception. Too many firms thought that was the new standard and couldn’t hire enough people and drill enough wells. Pay was insane, but now the industry has had to adjust to $50-75 oil as the standard. Wages are still good. Work is still out there it’s just not in frenzy mode anymore.

There’s nothing wrong in asking the OT so I can pick up other skills and move to other industries. 80K after taxes doesn’t get you anywhere these days. I’m not a Boomer
