Yep this.

First time I met my FIL, his first question for me is what my golf handicap was. I knew it was going to work

Mine is pretty cool. He is very practical and pragmatic. He has no time for feelings and is straight to the point. Like he straight up told us when we had our first kid that she would not be spending the night at his house unless it was an emergency. He loves our kids and sees them a lot but he has already raised 4 girls so I dont really blame him on that. Which pisses off the women in the family and me and him just laugh about it when we get to hang by ourselves.

My FIL is gone now, but he was a good dude and he is sorely missed by all. I don’t really believe in a heaven, but if there is a heaven, I’d like to think there’s a special place just for him.

Just messin with you

My father in law is a really quiet and reserved person and its pretty tough to get him to spark up any conversation. Guess I should consider myself lucky

My FIL is a baw that likes to take me out fishing or shooting guns and drink beer all day. He usually wants to leave all the women at home. It pisses my wife off but what am I supposed to do? Say no?

My FIL and I did have a pretty heated argument soon after the wife and I got married. I forget why, but he had a key to our house and would just drop by there during the day to do things for us. He meant well, but after it happening several times it started bothering me. Like he'd stop by and cut the grass, or he'd see I started painting a room and he'd finish it. After the time he cut the grass, he went and bought a new lawnmower because he didn't like the way the one I had cut the grass.

My wife was 30 when we got married and he'd gotten used to doing those things for her I guess. I delicately told him he didn't need to do that for me and he got offended and accused me of not appreciating it. MIL took my side in it and talked him off the ledge and he apologized and gave the house key back to us. Haven't had a cross word with him since.

My FIL now lives with us. He's 83 and in great shape for an 83 year old. Still drives and takes care of himself.

Luckily I guess for me, he's not an expert in anything, but he doesn't want help in his personal projects he does, I learned that pretty quickly. I only help if he asks for it.

Beyond that, I just let him do it himself, if it takes him all day to do something I could help him with in 15 minutes, I just let him go and do it at his pace.

Mine is legit worthless. No job. Married with two kids from a current wife. My wife is the daughter from a previous marriage. Lives in LA and talks about the good days of radio DJing.

His father (my grandfather in law) is awesome. A doctor, witty, and impressive. Both of his children are worthless, no jobs, mooch off him.

I told my FIL what I thought about a year ago, both over the phone and via email. He sent the email to the entire family. Told his daughter, “I’ll hate the day you have children with him”.

I won in ways I could not imagine on that one.

Mine is cool old guy. They live 400 miles from us so we only see them 2 or 3 times per year. He calls me to check on the family but rarely calls my wife. This pisses her off too

She says I'm the son that he always wanted but never had.

Any other guys here have trouble getting along with your wife’s Dad?

My FIL basically is an self proclaimed expert in everything. Really don’t have much anything in common. He watches zero sports but wants to act like he knows it all when I have a game on. Then he gets pissed when I explain rules to him or correct him on crap he says like Western Michigan is in the Big 10 conference.

Another argument was he was trying to tell me I grew up in Northeast Louisiana. I explained I didn’t grow up there but instead very close to Lake Charles. My FIL proceeds to tell his extended family the next day at the table I grew up in Northeast LA again. Never mind he has never lived in Louisiana and I have lived there for 32 years. I just let it go.

Tried to find a common interest and he likes working on home projects and cars. But when I help I am not allowed to have an opinion on anything. I watched him struggle to remove a torx screw from under the hood for 30 minutes. I pulled up a video and then suggested we use a diffferent setup. All hell broke lose b/c I suggested this. So I said it sounds like you want to work on this by yourself. Let me know if you need my help. If I do a project alone he will inspect it when I am finished. Then he will ask 100 questions about it until he finds one that I say “I don’t know” and then he laughs.

I still invite him fishing, hunting, to watch games but he basically never comes. I forget the past everytime I am around him and start from a clean slate but heck with him it’s always I’m right and my way or the highway.

tell him that you bang his daughter in the arse.

My father in law is trash and prob feels inferior to me. He 60 years old, still tries to play in bands, lives in a trailer, smokes and drinks heavily, has tattoos, and has been in and out her whole life. I look at him like a piece of shite.

It’s obvious he is very jealous and insecure around me, but he doesn’t say shite because he knows he’s a bitch. I refuse to go to his place. He must come to ours if he wants to see his daughter. We see him about 2 times a year mex.

Love my MIL and FIL like my own parents. Really got lucky. My wife is not so lucky and does not get along with my mom.
