On my 3rd marriage and finally got it right. First one lasted a year. Second one like 8 years and two kids. Ran around on both those and they got tired of it. 3rd wife I haven’t ever done any of that stuff. Was older. I’ve had more affairs than I can count. Easily over 100 during my first two marriages. It was fun but eventually you get old and don’t want to do that stuff anymore.

Walk up and Piss on his leg to establish Alpha status

I have to put on a face for my future FIL. Cannot stand the a-hole though.
I’ll try and make this longish story as short as possible. Here goes:
My fiancé asked him if he’d help pay for our wedding to which he said “how much we talking here” and she gave him the number, the venue, and the date in which we would like to get married. When he got that information, he proceeded to bad mouth me and basically said he would think about it.
My fiancé tells me all that and naturally, I’m pissed that he would badmouth me like that. She tells me that he wants to talk to me and I say ok, well obviously not tonight because I’m too damn mad to have a good conversation with him about this.
Fast forward a couple weeks and we have the conversation. The “conversation” turned into me trying to reason with a man who was being completely unreasonable, he was talking shite about my family, about me, accusing me of being a drunk (I’m not), flat out lying about “conversations” we’ve had in his head, and being in general a prick about everything.
I finally just said “alright, this ain’t going anywhere. We can pick this back up another time but we’re getting nowhere right now.” And walked out rather than try to keep going back and forth with a man who is utterly incapable of finding common ground even when his daughter is involved.
Which makes his fricking head explode, he follows me out of his house and says “hey, you chickenshit son of a bitch, don’t you ever step foot on this property again. You want your own $15,000 wedding (which wasn’t going to be the cost, it would’ve been cheaper) you pay for it yourself”. I said “ok” and just turned heel and walked off. He was trying to goad me into hitting him so he could justify himself being a righteous son of a bitch to me and his daughter about this wedding.
He’s since apologized and to appease my fiancé, who very well may be a saint, I accepted. He’s kissed my arse incessantly since then, though. But he’s not involved in the wedding and gets 0 say and he’s basically further ostracized his daughter.

Right?
That's like a Saturday night live sketch.
What a dick.

My FIL over steps his boundaries at times. That son of a bitch taught my only son how to ride a bike while I was busy posting babe threads here on TD. What an a-hole.

Yep! My FIL is a great dude and we couldn't get along any better.

My FIL is about the nicest guy I could ever meet. Wish we didn't live so far away. They're in Utah and we're in DFW. I would play golf with him every week.

Nope, my FIL is awesome. Anytime he's smoking a brisket or ribs or frying fish he always makes extra and invites us or brings it by the house. When he bought his new bass boat, he gave me his old one which there was nothing wrong with, he just wanted a bigger one. Anything he has; tools, vehicles, trailers, etc. I'm welcome to borrow anytime I want.

I didn’t at first. I didn’t feel like he was doing right by her. Now that our wedding is being planned, he’s been a lot more like a father. Which makes me happy. She loves her dad despite a lot of bad decisions, and I think he’s trying to turn a corner.

If you met some smoke show that was awesome but her father was a douche you would have walked? You sound like an idiot.

Agreed. You can’t punish someone because their family has problems. In the end, all of our families are fricked up somewhere.

My fil used to aggravate the shite out of me for the first 5-10 years. The last 8 something changed and I really enjoyed visits and considered him a damn good friend.
Someone once asked me if I ever let on that he aggravated me so badly. I said no, I didn’t think. They asked, do I think I ever aggravated the shite out of him. I’m sure I did. He never let on either though.
he was a bit odd and just different than me and my family. But he’d always do anything for my wife or me. We took a lot of our vacations together, watched football on Sundays, and had a million meals together.
He’s gone now and is missed.

You don't want to hear this but when they get even older they are going to become your wife's problem and thus your problem as well. Unless you think your wife is just going to let them become destitute .....

I did. Her dad hated me, and I didn't much care for him. My dad had a strenuous relationship with his FIL and I saw the strain it put on our family, and I didn't want to repeat the cycle. A few years later I met my wife and realized that girl wasn't all I thought she was so it worked out for the better. But her dad was the reason I ended things, and I told her so.
