This is a war Joe Biden is winning, and it may soon be worthless.

Nope. Several sports stadiums and arenas are moving to credit/debit only. Quite a few food/beer spots at American Airlines center now do this.

The movement towards cashless only started well before COVID.

Who doesn’t take cash?

Hampton Inn across from the Ike Center in West Monroe doesn't. I had a helluva round with them back in 2013 about it. I lost the argument because of that small fine print at the bottom of the registration card that no one reads when I checked in.

For non internet transactions I have not run into anyplace that rejects cash and I use cash for about 90% of my purchases face to face. It's still King.

Go to Chicago.
Is so hard to use cash.
So fricking hard.
I would go to counter service places. Credit only. In the airport no one took cash.

You would be wrong, and I’ve never verbally jousted with a server. I don’t “stiffed a tip” whatever that means unless the service is poor.

It was a trip to Chicago that this happened. I still had a card to use for hotel and other things but u had a good bit of cash on me and found it really hard to use.

After waiting line for food. And having already touched the food. I was fricking LIVID when I couldnt get the food. Even after I offered $20 for the $13 plate and said you can keep the change. This was in Eataly an Italian food hall.

It was crazy.

The old "I haven't seen it in my small town. So you must be lying"

I was staying on the Miracle mile in Streeterville in the Intercontinental in a two room suite. I have the funds.
I lost my plastic on a Friday. I will have it back today. I had other plastic I didn't want to use at all. I had a good bit of cash on me I couldn't use. I found it annoying.

Now I was with my wife who had her plastic. Still I find it annoying.

It seems to be mostly the "trendy" places doing this. Also hard to spend cash in O'hare.

If a business owner turns down cash they are stupid. The fee to process a card is like 2-3% per transaction. Why would you turn away cash? That makes no sense.

Again, tons of ignorance in this thread. Accepting cash costs 1-2% also generally, depends on the business.

As a small business owner I haven’t looked recently as I only do checks and credit cards, but actual cash a lot of banks used to charge a fee to deposit. As said, getting cash picked up or delivered costs money. Have my someone make a deposit, costs money.

Having large sums of cash on hand for employee theft or a robbery is a risk to be considered. Credit cards also help with inventory control better, you know exactly what was purchased at all times. Cash makes it easier to forget to ring things in, like a beer or coffee. Bartenders and baristas get to know exact cost and don’t ring everything in all the time right away and will forget.

This. Just. Isn't. True.

Not every restaurant does.

This was also every place in Chicago. QR code menus. Though most table service places still took cash. Every server prefers cash tips. I found counter service didn't.

I bought three sets of Speed Queens with cash (thanks to your recommendation).

So there’s that.

On the other hand, I’m in the process of buying a used golf cart and the amount of people that want ‘cash only’ and not a bank check is ridiculous. If you don’t want to pay the taxes or whatever I don’t care, but it’s absurd to ask me to help you participate and ask me to meet you at your house with $8000 cash for something that doesn’t have an official title potentially.

They would have taken my cash or I would have walked. You might be able to refuse me service. But once a debt has been created you cannot legally refuse cash. Fine print or not they shouldn't have given you service without payment up front if they want to operate like that.

This.

It's not the issue of plastic. We all have plastic and you can turn cash to plastic at most stores. It's the multitude of places outright refusing cash.

I notice Atlanta, nashville, Austin and Chicago all in that number. Seems to be places that are more "hip".

Everything you mentioned is minimal compared to CC transaction fees. You don't need an armored car service just because you accept cash . Deposit slips/bags are free

Well that's on the hands of the employer for hiring shitty people.

Same answer as above. Besides, paying a fee to use a credit card is bs. Here's the thing about credit cards. You walk into Home Depot with a hundred bucks in your pocket to buy something you found for $85 in an ad somewhere. You buy it and leave. You walk in with a credit card and buy that $85 item and two or three more items you didn't intend to buy when you walked in. At the checkout counter you end up spending a $143.30. And people wonder why it's hard to pay off their cc bill. I use to be a prime example of this but about 25 years ago I wised up.
