If I suspect they only take cards, I try to order and consume or open the package etc…. And they magically take cash at that point! Amazing how that works!

Pat Boone warned you friend.

I never pay for the food at a normal restaurant BEFORE I eat it, therefore it is then a debt. (Fast food excluded).
I suspect many “cash only” situations are to prevent employee skimming/theft. PMAC concessions, local sporting events etc….

I'd probably head to albasha's, get a combo salad and a tax attorney contact.
And, apropos of this thread, the clients they sent always paid cash.

You have armored car service, bank fees, pay for change, deposit slips, deposit bags, drop safes…cash cost money to process

Went to see Top Gun: Maverick the other day and the concessions said “for safety reasons,” no cash, only cards.
I was a teller at Hibernia for a year in college and can confirm that cash is friggin’ disgusting. The number of deposits I had to handle that were pulled from bras, socks, and god knows where else turned me into a frequent hand washer.

It’s a weird phenomenon because I see two things happening at the same time.
1) places refusing cash (I assume it makes it easier for them and they just pass he service fee onto the consumer).
2) places charging extra to use cards and seemingly preferring cash.
Have seen a lot of both lately

Mom and pop retail will charge for credit to offset their cc fees, plus they want cash because it will never be reported, big companies are the ones moving away from cash

Went to Arlington to watch the Rangers play, no vendor took cash. They have signs posted everywhere saying no cash.

I thinks it the same at the Death Star…
Think how much money they would save on security guards…you definitely can’t pay cash to park

Six Flags is cashless but offers the ability to load gift card using cash. Kinda awkward if you send your kid with a group… before long, most kids will have cards.

Kids had debit cards in junior high like 20 years ago

restaurants, etc. accepting cards only.
How the frick does that work? Restaurants serve you before you pay, creating a debt owed and thus cash can't be refused. Unless they are changing the model to where you pay up front for all food and service?

Not Houston’a restaurant

I went cash only. It’s not that difficult
Going 100% cash as a consumer is damn hard.
No E-commerce
Paying things like car notes and mortgage payments, maybe if they are serviced by a bank with a local branch
Roll up to a closing planning to pay the down-payment or the entire price in cash and see what the attorney says
Hell, my wife nor I can cash our paychecks without having to spend the time to file a Form 8300. I can tell you that is a PITA.
Even as a broke college student in the 80s going 100% cash would have been a PITA.

If a business owner turns down cash they are stupid. The fee to process a card is like 2-3% per transaction. Why would you turn away cash? That makes no sense.

Places that are card only have signage visible before ordering, typically at multiple places and including the door, saying such.
I’m willing to bet you have seen such a sign before ordering but still started a pedantic argument with the server, and stiffed the tip for the “inconvenience”
