Who doesn’t take cash? I think they are legally obligated to accept it.

No its not, because they won't take it.
Who is "they". We just remodeled our house a year ago and we paid cash for all kinds of stuff between the $500-800 range at Lowe's, Home Depot and an appliance store. Things over a grand we cut them a check.

Sporting events, airlines, hotels, restaurants, etc, etc

Yep. My brother is going to be one happy dude when he opens my safety deposit box once the wife and I are gone - if she doesn't spend it after I'm gone.

Losing value every day.

before long, most kids will have cards.
Kids had debit cards in junior high like 20 years ago
Thanks, Captain. So did MOST kids have them in Junior High 20 years ago? Most don't have them now. It's coming. My kids have had cards for a while, but I don't let them carry them around.

Disagree
Well, actually most kids don't, but that's not what you meant. You meant most kids in a certain demographic don't, which I disagree with. Every kid over 12 I know has a debit card.

I assume you're talking about the major sporting events. Airlines, I haven't flown since '93. Those two thing I can understand where a cc is necessary but hotels and restaurants, no. All the hotels and restaurants in my area still take cash.

Many people aren’t even members of a brick and mortar bank (online only).
*which is dumb. When something goes wrong, and it always will, you want someone you know to be able to help you
WTF does that even mean
Banks are all corporate now, they do not know any of the customers. The days George Bailey's Building and Loan not longer exist.
USAA is my bank for the past 20 years, they are online only.

I didn't realize I was talking to a cretin, carry on.

I think the main reason some places dont take cash, is they're afraid someone will steal it, either the person working or somebody else.

I had one in 1997ish maybe when I had a highschool job.

How the frick does that work? Restaurants serve you before you pay, creating a debt owed and thus cash can't be refused. Unless they are changing the model to where you pay up front for all food and service?
For dine-in restaurants with full service, I’ve seen signs posted on the doors. More commonly, I see it at counter service restaurants where you pay when you place the order and then someone brings it to you. Deli style restaurants especially.

She had about fifty cash she didn't get back but all the bs about getting new cards and phone calls involved - well it just isn't worth it to me. I use cc for big ticket items only. Anything under a grand, it's cash for me.
Last month I lost both my ID and debit card. I immediately cancelled my debit card and ordered a new one through an automated system. A new debit card arrived the next week. I went online and bought a new ID by confirming my identity that arrived in 2 weeks. Aside from waiting for these things to arrive in the mail, it took me 1 phone call, 1 website form, and about 20 minutes total.
I don't see what BS about getting a new card would have been on the docket. Any time I've had to deal with bank customer service about stolen/lost cards they have always been very polite and prompt. I could see an issue if you use a local bank with poor resources.

I think you just wanted to get a barb in.
I misplaced a card that was linked to another card. I turned them off. I still had my business cards in my travel wallet. I still had E funds if need be.
Just didn't have my travel CC.
But I had a good bit of cash on me.
I was out of town in a place I've never been before and my top take away of the last 4 days is Chicago hates cash. I know the OT hates Chicago ( I actually had a great time and the cash issue was my only issue and it really wasn't even that bad other than at Eataly. And only then because at that point I didn't have my wife nearby with her plastic. )
It didn't limit much. Really just an observation.

This.
I've never had cash stolen. I've had employees at places I spent credit steal from me. Though I did get restitution.

I dropped by the bank branch and they printed a new debit & credit card on site. Used the DMV app and had a temporary license immediately until the new one came in the mail on 5-7 business days.

I have, straight out of my wallet. And I've had my credit card hacked too. Guess which one I got the funds back from?
