A few bars here in Houston are cashless.

I never even thought about bars but I've noticed that some of the coffee shops here don't take cash. That was a huge surprise to me. They simple will not take a $5. Crazy.

I guess it makes the accounting side of it simple. Click, print, deposit, done. No change, til, or end of night countdowns.

Things like this really make me realize how old I'm getting.

I wouldn’t patronize an establishment that didn’t accept cash for sales under $100. frick them and their credit card only shite.

Had to pay for everything by cc at Pinehurst in 2019. It was a huge PIA.

I've definitely had a fast food place once tell me they were card only. Especially at night. And have driven away as a result.

I’ve done the same when they told me they were cash only

It's funny because I avoid the coffee shop near my house that does this. It's one block over and they charge $4 for a black coffee and don't take cash. I'm convinced they do it so they can charge more. I pass that every time to go to another place further up the road that takes cash and closes on Sundays. It's not really intentional, but it is.

It's legal tender for all debts public and private.

For all debts; not all transactions. You are not indebted to the restaurant you want to eat from, or the store where you’re shopping. You can create a debt using a credit card and then pay that off with cash.

How so? I understand being frustrated to not have the option, but how is paying by CC a huge PIA? Convenience seems like the main benefit.

The war on cash is real. Here in Dallas I am noticing more & more places that are card only & if the music venue is a Live Nation venue or a sports venue it is card only.

I prefer cash for smaller purchases & I get eye rolls all the time from cashiers who want nothing to do with handling cash. People should be concerned with this because when they stop letting us use cash the government with the help of your bank is going to control your life. You will be at the mercy of your bank & ask the people in Canada how that worked out for them when they had the audacity to protest the government lockdowns when they froze their own personal bank accounts.

More convenient (IMO) just to hand them a $5 or $10 spot and walk away with your drink then having to hand them a card, wait for them to run it, enter a PIN or sign a receipt. Just give the girl a $10 bill for your two gatoraides. No need to charge ThT shite.

I’m sure it’s all in what you’re used to. But I’ve always had cash to pay for little purchases. To each his own I guess.

Went to see Top Gun: Maverick the other day and the concessions said “for safety reasons,” no cash, only cards. Either it’s because of stupid Covid concerns or it’s a way of not getting robbed since no cash is readily available.

There are some local food joints around here that will not take cards and it’s only cash. In the past I wish cards were an option. Nowadays, I’m relieved there are places that only accept cash.

This is not true…cashless restaurants are becoming more and more popular…it is actually becoming more expensive for restaurants to deal in cash than paying cc fees…and safety is a big factor as well…my restaurants does 3-4 million a year in sales and we never have a cash deposit over 1k a day…

Rarely, I get, but 0% chance you ‘never’ deposit over $1,000 if you are doing $20-30k+ on a Friday or Sat night. There’s plenty of people 50+ that still like to pay cash and they are generally the ones paying larger restaurant tabs.

But yes, many people don’t realize that banks charge high fees for taking cash now. To count, deposit, etc.

Not sure how its legal, probably in fine print on your ticket agreement

Because a taco stand isn't a creditor.

You aren't attempting to pay off a debt, which is the only protection legal currency gives you.

They are perfectly able to refuse services if you cannot provide payment in format they prefer.

You don't gamble with your friends? I love the times I win and have a big stash of cash.. Then the next time I take half of my bankroll then lose it all.. But I always keep a little cash on me. I just don't like to have a record of everything I do.
