Had a buddy, his brother and both their wives pack two truck and leave for the desert west of Stansbury Park when the quake hit...when was that...2020.

After the dust settled and he returned I asked him just what he thought he would do out there. Typical para-military fricks with no actual military training, thinking they would survive on pronghorn, rabbits and a few cases of water and snipe anyone who came within 500 yards.

Staying home…. Power grid either physical or cyber attack, biological attack or financial system shutdown…..

My little bit of EOD knowledge can easily work in reverse…..

I just hope we are walking distance from home if it happens…

24-36 hours with no power and no coms…. All hell will break looose..

Until they’re not. I don’t think people appreciate the kind of mental and emotional distress that this will induce. When the primal survival instinct kicks in, all bets are off.

Why would I drive 1/2 way across the county in this situation?

There is no escaping societal collapse. Country people will eat their own as needed just like urban areas. Survival of the fittest and most ruthless will rule the day.

The key to surviving this is not to do it alone. You cannot protect your family and possessions against an armed group of 15-20. The key is to form a small army of people you know and trust who have useful skills.

As another poster said above, If you go it alone, you're fricked. Small group of well armed people is the way to go.
Nothing in life is guaranteed. You do your best.
"Genuinely" sorry you're not set up as well as some are. At least my family would have a chance with our group.

Staying home. There’s land to disappear here if need be. Coast provides constant food. Fuel can be strapped to a convoy. Drive in middle of the night no lights, pitch darkness.

My Marine friends are welcome in the commune and beautiful ladies. If you are under 5’3 or 160 as a man, find another place. If you look like a 260 pound bag of human shite inside skin, you can find another place.

do you have a way of packing and transporting all of your survival gear to a possible several hours drive away?

You need to have that all ready to go in your bug out spot long before the crap hits the fan.

I’ve all but accepted that I’ll be a first-round casualty of doomsday. No hope for me.

Neither.. I am not fleeing TO the country.. I am fleeing THE country.. as in , leaving the United States.. more accurately, I have already fled the country .

Actually didnt "flee" so much as left for a better opportunity, and to get out of what I perceived to be toxic culture and insane 'Keeping up with the Jones' mindsets in America.. So far im thrilled with my choice, and absolutely love my life here in Southeast Asia .. and I feel that ill be safer here when the shite eventually goes sideways in America.. of course, "feelings" dont always translate to facts on the ground- but I think that being in the US, especially in a metro area, when the power grid goes down, the water runs out, AI does its thing- will be one of the worst places on Earth to be .

I'm in this thread way late. I currently have a vast amount of hand and long guns that I thought could keep me secured. Now, with all that prep, a nerd from one block away with a drone can knock me out. Best bet is to be in the middle of nowhere or have a group that are all on the same page.

I can run a 20 burner saute station like nobody's business but also know my way around MRE heaters. I can provide a ton of interesting facts about WW2 and 1970's stereo receivers. I also have a deluxe instant pot with the air fryer(makes yogurt too!).
