I want to buy one, you can get them really cheap... and outfit it ahead of time with solar panels, generator etc., solar stove/kettle, and stock it with survival rations, guns and ammo, fishing rods and lures. I'm about to buy a portable water desalinator as well. I hope to have a bit of a headstart as to when the rest of society finally realizes shite has really hit the fan, so I can already be gone and on my way to a remote island somewhere.

It'd be anarchy just about everywhere but the most rural, inaccessible places. Overall there are about 90 people per square mile in the US. Everybody would be fleeing the population centers. You might hide from it for a while but sooner or later it'll get to you, especially if you're in a location with a lot of resources.
Game would be depleted really quickly. Would probably have less than a year to really be able to rely on it for food. People who don't know how to hunt would figure it out quick and they wouldn't just be sitting in a tree waiting. They'd be organizing drives, burning, etc. If most people had no way of preserving it a lot would probably rot unless they were able to consume it immediately.

Thought about this a bunch. By the time I get to my camps down the bayou, im already dead or others have commandeered my sites. Best to stay home and defend my position.

One persistent flaw in the whole SHTF conversation is that urban/suburban folks fantasize about "bugging out to the country" where there will be fewer people and more resources.
That's a terrible assumption. I live extremely rural in a place many would describe as sparsely populated, yet there are plenty of people who (1) already live here; (2) spend our lives building farms and ag businesses; and (3) aren't going to be overrun by thousands of refugees. We will also be going through SHTF, and I'm not sharing resources with whoever shows up.
Your best bet is to have a strong local community, wherever you already live, and have as much nonperishable food and essentials saved up as you can store. Everyone should have a gun they can safely operate and a good stash of ammo.
That said, don't go crazy and think you'll all the sudden be Rambo because you bought a bunch of black rifles. If the people you fear the most actually show up, they will quite easily overwhelm you and take your stuff. (I heard an ex-military guy say that a while back, and I think there's a lot of truth in it.)
Let's all hope the SHFT event never happens. It will be worse than any of us can imagine, and few will survive the first few years, no matter where you live.

Couple years ago, I bought a 5 gallon LifeSaver jerry can that filters dirty stagnant mud puddles into safe drinking water, filtering something like 99.999999% of impurities, and it's good for 20K gallons of filtration. And I have a spare filter. I also have a few LifeStraws. I would suggest at least stocking up on a few of those and you'd be good for quite a while.

You do realize you need more than just fish and meat right? You need 1 acre per person and unless you are already farming, about 2 years from seeing benefits.
We have a whole half of a cow in our freezers, that usually lasts us a year. We also have chickens so we have access to fresh eggs. We do have a garden, and we have canned vegetables in the freezer along with other preserved items. We would have 6 weeks of generator electricity if we are careful on how we use it. So I would give us 3-6 months minimum. Oh we also have a water well on property and I can rig up a solar panel to run pump if necessary long-term.

Let me explain. There's a difference between a few folks passing through to beg/borrow/steal whatever they can. Those folks can be run off fairly easily, especially if you're armed.
But if you get some kind of organized gang coming around, with a bunch of armed men and some level of skill, one man will have no chance holding that off beyond a few hours or maybe days. That was the point of the quote I referenced.

That very well may happen, we have family and neighbors who all look out for each other so we may be taken out but we will survive much longer than people in DFW, or Houston, or NOLA etc.

I can have everything I need packed up in less than an hour if my son is with me more like two hours if I’m alone. That includes shelter, weapons, food, water, filtration everything I need.
