I remember following the coronavirus thread pretty much from page 1. Never would have convinced me that it was the beginning of a life changing event.

I hope this isn’t the same…

None of the updates this morning make it sound like it’s time for panties to be wadded up.

quote:

Three suspected hantavirus patients were evacuated this morning from a cruise ship, which is now heading from Cape Verde to the Canary Islands. Those evacuated are from Britain, the Netherlands and Germany, the Dutch government says. The Spanish health minister earlier said the British national was a doctor - although the BBC now understands that is not the case. Meanwhile, it has emerged that two British people left the MV Hondius earlier in its journey and are now self isolating at home after potential exposure to the virus - read more here. The Spanish government says the MV Hondius will dock in the Canary Islands, but the islands' president says he was not consulted and considers the risk to his population "very real". But Hondius operator Oceanwide Expeditions says all 145 remaining people on board are asymptomatic, and Spain's interior minister stresses there is "no risk" to the islanders.

Which state will be the first to announce a person is infected ? I’m guessing California or New York

Said there are 3 people in the US that were either on the ship or close to those who are/were. 1 in Georgia and 1 in Arizona. Didn't mention where the third is. Said no symptoms and are under watch at this point.

She was probably one of the flight attendants who prevented the sick woman from taking her second planned flight from South Africa to the Netherlands. You remember, the woman who died the next day in South Africa from the virus.
Those flight attendants did a really good thing for all the other people who would have been exposed for a very long flight.

The problem is the Andes strain has a long incubation period, which allows it to be an exception to the rule compared to something like Ebola with a short incubation period and far shorter asymptomatic transmission period.
There is not asymptomatic transmission of andes hantavirus

The commentary from health officials so far is eerily similar. They keep moving the goalposts in an effort to keep everyone calm rather than just telling the truth.

There was much more concern from the medical community early on with Covid. The transmission rate was the big thing.

This isn’t meant to be sarcastic.

Do you and others know this andes strain had been around for over 30 years with human to human transmission? They have decades of information on this

I was more referring to their consistent comments "2 weeks to stop the spread" and "the vaccine will kill covid"...the types of narratives where they kept trying to convince us that it would be fine if we just followed their advice, which were of course nonsense.

The third state is reported in Daily Mail to be California.
OK, it's unlikely that the three Americans took the same flight to their final destinations, so that could be a multiplication of exposures.

When I read California, I thought of the street people who never look healthy, who are nameless and who you couldn't track their movements and contacts.

We'll just have to hope that the California-bound passenger didn't go immediately and volunteer in a soup kitchen or other reach out program (to make up to karma for all the money spent on the recent vacation).
