If Honkus was on that ship, I’m confident we could get him home.

He was on a cruise. Couldn’t there be a really decent chance some rat droppings got in their food?

Not likely. It was almost like a scientific expedition cruise. Smaller boat (149 passengers).

I didnt mention hantavirus origins. Just that this case is likely a gay man

Then listed other illnesses associated with origins in the gay community. Then You corrected me, without mentioning hantavirus

Jesus Rob

The thread is about hantavirus. This isn’t the first case for this outbreak.

So I was telling you that your theory of a gay man being the first case again was wrong.

This isn’t hard.

A 50% kill rate seems high enough to maybe kill off the infected before they really have a chance to spread it too much.

You are suggesting the dead-end host area of the transmission-virulence tradeoff. The problem is the Andes strain has a long incubation period, which allows it to be an exception to the rule compared to something like Ebola with a short incubation period and far shorter asymptomatic transmission period.

Gaëtan Dugas died in 1984 from aids. I think you have the wrong guy.

Well, tell him that

There were other passengers who left the ship weeks ago exposed to it and now one of them has it. No telling how many people he has been in contact with over the past month since being home

quote:

BREAKING: The deadly hantavirus outbreak has spread to Europe after a passenger who had already left the MV Hondius cruise ship tested positive back home, per NYP

Swiss authorities said the man returned home last month following a trip to South America with his wife before testing positive for the virus, which can lie dormant for up to eight weeks.
