Plug in Hybrids or PHEVs are the better choice for probably 90%+ of the consumer population.

Disagree. Even ignoring the pros and cons of plug in hybrids versus purely regenerative hybrids, vastly more than 10% of the population doesn't have access to reliable at home charging. For anyone in that situation, there's no reason to carry around a significantly heavier battery for zero payoff.

About a year ago, My wife bought herself a Mazda CX90 PHEV. It will recharge overnight on an 120v AC outlet. She gets about 30 miles of range which is more than enough for 90% of her daily driving. When she runs out of EV mode miles it switches to a regular Hybrid operation. She's bought 1/2 a tank of gas since April charging only at home using a standard wall outlet. Although we have only done it about 1 or 2 times, it can also recharge at a standard EV charging station (like ChargePoint)

Serious question, who doesn't have access to a standard AC outlet in their garage?

Do they not have outside outlets either?

Something like a quarter of the US population lives in apartments, to say nothing of all of the people who only have street parking

GM and Ford just had lousy quarters because of their declines in EV sales. Maybe its because their EVs suck...

First off, they're garbage. Second, you can't make an EV and compete against Tesla when you're still stuck in the old dealership model. The dealerships are another mouth to feed and they control how much they sell your product for. Meanwhile I can literally buy a Tesla on a phone app.

Not much of a reason for them to "come back" when my comfortable people mover hybrid would likely beat your naturally aspirated V8 off the line, to say nothing of dogwhipping your natty V6

They saw you coming from
Miles away. Sold by the flashy lights.

More shite to break, costs more, reliability issues, etc.

Bought one for the wife this summer after her last lease ended. Glad we leased the first one, because it depreciated heavily and was underwhelming for "German luxury."

I'll probably buy an EV for my next vehicle purchase in about 18 months. Plan on keeping my truck for the utility and using the EV as a daily driver.

I wonder how homeowners insurance is impacted by EV ownership, given the apparent enhanced risk of fire if in the garage...

What’s it like being completely full of shite and driving a sluggish vehicle?

30-50% of EV owners buy ICE vehicles instead of another EV. ( per Ward's Auto) when replacing their primary auto.

EVs still suffer from poor infrastructure, lengthy charging times, and, up until very recently, terrible resale. Range anxiety is a real thing.

EVs are perfect for city-dwellers but guess what those residents don't typically have access to?

Home-based charging stations.

The future for EVs is excellent, with sodium ion batteries, and more importantly, small, gas-powered on-board generators.

Ford's lineup is meh and GM shot themselves in the face by dumping Apple Carplay and Android Auto from their EVs for a native system.

Hybrids are a far cry from EVs.

Great for mpg and they've come a long way

American consumers at least want the illusion of product support that this companies wouldn’t be able to provide.

Such a stereotype. Plenty of solid Chinese offerings that are well supported in many market segments. Plenty of crap, too, but to claim they are categorically incapable of supporting an engineered product is just ignorant.

Cirrus Aircraft are manufactured in my town. Really nice, innovative, planes, and the largest (or second largest) unit volume manufacturer in aviation.

Chinese-owned.

If you go test drive a Tesla with FSD you will want to buy it on the spot. Once you've used it, it's crazy to want to go back to driving yourself. Literally life changing tech that comes around a few times in your lifetime.
