Our water bill is usually $95.00 but this past month $700.00 so I had the city come out, no leaks what could cause this ?

Genius working at the utilities office says maybe a flapper got stuck on a toilet, he thinks a toilet could run 30,000 gallons of water in four hours

On 09/19 in a four hour interval from 12:00 am - 4:00 am is the spike

Smart meters have been an issue in every place they have been implemented. Though no company will admit it. This is a hot topic all over.

Do you have an advanced digital networked meter? How would they know there was a 30,000 gallon consumption in 4 hours?

Looks like either an old school frickup or an old school fricking

They probably haven't been reading your meter for a few years, and just writing in a number based off previous months. Looks like someone finally checked it and said "Oh shite"

Does your neighbor have a recently installed pool? Might have run a hose from your house to help fill it up.

I know people are joking about a neighbor’s pool, but Google tells me a garden hose maxes out at about 1k gallons/hr. 30k gallons is a lot of water in four hours

That’s a lot of high volume spikes in a few months.

Looking forward to the update on this story, because something smells fishy.

My gas bill went from an average of 10 units used over the last 6 months to 110 units causing my bill to be 5x. I called and was like “WTF” and they said “oh, we probably misread to meter, here’s how you can fix it”

Why the frick are they not noticing shite like that?

We had a $930 bill when it's normally $30. I found a leak in my landscaping right against the house, the copper line had a rock get against it and after years it wore a pinhole. Because of the landscaping fabric and rock on top, it wasn't visible.

Luckily the plumber who plumbed my house when it was built was in town and came out the same afternoon and fixed it. Only charged me $400.

I submitted my invoice to the water company and they credited me $875 on my bill. I was quite pleased.

That's 125 gpm. Do you have a fire hydrant running off your meter?

Legalized theft. There’s class action talk in Jefferson Parish about this.
