Jefferson parish hit me for 1400 dollars. It’s just my wife and I in a 3 bedroom by ourselves. Plumber comes out and tells me “you ain’t got a leak and somebody is bullshittint”
Yet we’re still stuck to pay the bill or risk having our water turned off. frick Jefferson Parish’s water department and their politicians who don’t do a damn thing.

That’s a lot of high volume spikes in a few months.
That's about it too, they ran a detailed report (data logging report) for 3 months, the only spikes were that short period and all others were normal.
No hose, no pool, no running toilets, no broke flapper

Friend of mine lived in a sketchy neighborhood in college in a rent house. Woke up one Saturday morning in the summer and heard water running. Checked all over and found nothing until he looked out his front window. Black dude neighbor that resembled Deebo from "Friday" had pulled his 92 Firebird into my buddy's yard and was using his hose to wash his car. My buddy stood there with his coffee in hand and said "Hey! How are you? Can I get you anything? Coffee? Water?" Dude just said "Nah I'm good. Just getting everything cleaned up for Saturday night. Thanks, though!"

Genius working at the utilities office says maybe a flapper got stuck on a toilet, he thinks a toilet could run 30,000 gallons of water in four hours
You need to call that dumbass back. I have a 15K gal pool and when I refinished it, it took 36 hours to fill up with hose wide open.

Ask them how it would be possible to flow 125 gpm through a 3/8" hose on a toilet fill bowl, and how they were miraculously able to supply 75,000 psi water for a 4 hour period.

I know people are joking about a neighbor’s pool, but Google tells me a garden hose maxes out at about 1k gallons/hr. 30k gallons is a lot of water in four hours
It typically takes 42 to 83 hours (roughly 2 to 3.5 days) to fill a 30,000-gallon pool with a standard garden hose. The exact time depends on your water pressure and hose diameter, which determine the flow rate in gallons per minute (GPM

I found a leak
A guy from the city came out yesterday and the meter wasn't moving , he also did some leak test and stated I didn't have one.
That's why I can't figure out WTF is going on.

What happened for 9/9? That’s a nice spike as well.

They are gonna tell you that you have to cover it. It’s gonna be a bitch to finally get the water company to say, oh ok, we can fix that for you.
It’s like in 2016 when people had power completely disconnected to a property and zero power was being used after the flood and people were still getting bills for over $1000 of electricity

Wait. Midnight to 4 am is the spike?
Somethings gotta be wrong with the meter itself.

How did you flow $930 of water through a pin hole in a month?
These bills are bullshite. It would take a 3" pipe to do what happened in OPs bill. With yours, think about how long it would take to fill a swimming pool with a pin hole leak. Youd have noticed the ocean of water in your yard.

Is anyone drilling an oil or gas well nearby and hauling in sacks of LCM?
Posted on 10/6/26 at 1:25 pm to redstick13
Let’s just assume you have a 1” meter.
125 gpm would be 46 ft/s through the pipe (363 ft/s through your poor little toilet fill line that was “leaking”)
350 psi drop per 100 feet of pipe.
Ask them when they were able to supply that high of water pressure.

Right now, in a dark cold room somewhere in China, a little Asian computer hacker is laughing his arse off.
"Oh rook, Mr. Torch, he big mad at his waterbill. Gonna cost him a rot of money. HAHAHAHAHAHAH"

I submitted my invoice to the water company and they credited me $875 on my bill. I was quite pleased.
Fwiw, they should. The power to move the water and chemical to treat it don't cost much at all. The cost is in infrastructure and maintenance. If you pipe burst underground and use $1k in water, that's a windfall for them... Assuming you don't get them to credit your bill.

Probably not the same problem but my sprinklers run on well and house on city. Sprinkler guy messed up and opened city valve/closed well valve. So we watered 3 acres with city water for almost 2 months. After the first month, we thought it was a meter issue b/c they put in a new meter about 6 months before.

Looks like you didn't take a shite at all on some of those days. Or shower either

I'm also in Jefferson Parish and every time I open my water bill my sphincter tightens....The problem with over billing has been going on for over a year and every cycle more people are bitching.. The only comment that I have seen from the water billing department was "we have been under charging people for years".. Sounds like their problem not the people's problem....

They are hoping that someone doesn't look or has it on autopay. As convenient it is to have autopay, I stopped doing that for utilities in case of a frickup like this.
