Hmmm. Ten bars, 24 hours. What happens when you divide 24 by 10?
Does that give you a certain period of time represented per bar?
Not on that graph, each bar is a day. Which is why there are ten between 8/10 and 8/20.
Now you can data log for each hour, but the water dept didn't pull that.

Umm, this was his OP image. Yours doesn't even match his dispute date. You're looking at August? Why?
Because I just zoomed in on the parameters and dates of the data log? I'm pretty sure the log didn't just change from days to hours two-thirds of the way through the set.
The same words are visible in the image you posted.

A customer can absolutely use 20k gallons of water in a single day.
The issue is my bill was $95.00 for 2 1/2 years in my property, “one day” out of the blue they said I used 20,000 gallons when nothing changed prior or since. No leak, no running flapper, no pool, no sprinkler system.
Before and since the daily use has been normal.
They use digital meters and this has happened to 100’s of people in our community lately .

When you mentioned you're a Water Guy, was it as a Sparklett's or Culligan home jug delivery man by chance?

I understand completely and I will be the first to say that I'm dubious of electronic water meters which is why I'm thankful that our system just has mechanical meters with mechanical heads for residential meters.
However, if I'm being truthful, I cannot tell you how many times I've heard that exact thing from customers and how many times it has come back to bite them.
Toilets can absolutely destroy your water bill. I've seen it too many times. Just by looking at the usage you posted, I would absolutely check everything, replace every toilet valve and daily read your meter even if you think its faulty because whatever issue is just getting worse.
Its a very small price to pay.

Possibly. But I guess its possible that you are one of the people who believe increasing pipe diameter increases water pressure.

I have a high usage alert set now so if this happens again at least I’ll know, I was on direct draft and never really even paid much attention to my bill.
Until this one

Yeah, that is an absolute killer.

Secondly, either they are dumb or feel sorry for you, so take advantage of it and find out where the water went, change toilet flappers, ect, before it happens again or worse and they don't help you out.
So explain this in your first post.
After reading the Torch posts waaay early on in his telling of the situation, this is your current advice... that flappers need to be looked at to avoid another massive 4 hour anomaly.

Just last month I was sitting in my home office working. Guy knocked on the door about five minutes after 8 AM. Says he’s there to cut off my water for nonpayment.
Tell him I have the payment on auto pay like all my utility bills.
He says his work order just says to cut it off, but he he’ll come back in a few hours to give me time to call the water company.
I called the water company. Lady says my bill was $1563.00.
I’m like what the frick is that?
She says the bill has not been paid in 15 months. I said how do you go 15 months without me paying and I not know about it?
She then says I have to pay the whole bill right then, no way to split it up. If I had called in prior to them sending out the cutoff notice it could’ve been broken up a few payments.
Anyway, fortunately, I’m able to pay it, so pay it but right then, but I’m still pissed that this goes 15 months with nothing and then boom have to pay immediately
And if I hadn’t happened to be home working that morning, I would’ve missed the guy knocking on the door and that shite would’ve been cut off.

Glad you hung in there and got them to adjust to something reasonable.
Brother in law just paid an $850 water bill for leaving the water hose on over the weekend by accident.
I've moved to the hills of Arkansas and have a house with a well and can drink water right out of the ground and it's really good.
Water bill has been running zero a month ever since I moved, really consistent meter readings.

Not quite. I'm saying he needs to look at his toilet flappers and hot water popoff valve to avoid any more 20k gallon a day usage, and also avoid all of his 10k gallon day usages and his 5k gallon a day usages. That water bill is massive even if you remove the single 20k day.
