The hyperbole of a child, even an infant, will overheat at 80 degrees defies the number of people that lived cradle to grave in homes in the South without any A/C. Admittedly they were better fixed with window or attic fans than most today but discomfort does not equal dangerous and 80 degrees is merely discomfort.

Hence why I don’t have a NEST or other smart devices of that type.

Bad enough Amazon already has wire taps here.

No, it's very easy to argue with. I pay for a service. Provide the goddamn service. Your inability to do so is not my fricking problem.

When the grid goes down it will be your problem.

We all know the TX grid has issues with demand and if the regulations on sharing electricity across grids weren't as cumbersome this likely would be less of an issue. The grid issues is something the TX power producers should be working on but until it is worked out people who agreed to have their energy usage curtailed in high demand times will have some inconvenience.

You apparently don't care that the people chose to be in the situation and think the company should take responsibility for their customers' actions. Most people are for personable responsibility right up until they are impacted by their own choices.

How is this thread 4 pages?

People agreed to have their thermostats lowered. It happened.

/thread

But it sure seems like people are commenting about things that did not happen.

Part of the reason our society is fricked is on display in this thread. Headline readers wanting to react based on headlines instead of the actual more mundane story.

Yep. Societal problems summed up:
1. Headline/feed writers
2. Headline/feed readers

And I’d bet a years salary that the thermostats of the politically connected are NEVER remotely changed.

How is it without their knowledge if they agreed to remote control of their thermostat? People are dumb as frick, they think entering a contest is worth this shite.

Smart TVs, iPhones and fire sticks are enough for me, nothing else in our house is connected to the internet. Those 3 are really too much but in today’s world we don’t have much of a choice.

Awfully dramatic, that's just silly.

Many smart thermostats can be enrolled in a program called "Smart Savers Texas." It's operated by a company called EnergyHub. The agreement states that in exchange for an entry into sweepstakes, electric customers allow them to control their thermostats during periods of high energy demand.
So this is a non-story, they signed up for this to save a few bucks.

Are you unable of getting off the couch to turn it back down? It doesn't lock out your control.

Educate yourself on the system or start walking a lot more.

People bitch just to bitch.

My FIL had a temp job at West Marine when he was between career jobs. The thermostat was controlled by HQ in California. I think it was set to 78 or 79 degrees. They sweat their asses off every summer afternoon. They control all stores this way. Of course they do not know that humidity is the killer at making someone uncomfortable, and the ac takes the moisture out of the air.

Texans talk about secession and they couldn't keep the lights on during a cold snap and so many of them willingly give control of their homes' temperature in return for a sweepstakes. Proof that the SEC made a huge mistake in letting the Aggies join.
