You are correct. Sweden has similar testing rates as US, but less than Norway and Denmark, so it’s possible this skews their data. As stated, it is yet to be seen whether or not Sweden’s approach proves to be right or not.

That’s got to be a bit misleading though, I think 2/3 of the entire population lives in greater Stockholm.

Not as misleading as Canada’s population density of ~11 people per square mile. But you’re correct in that it’s a large concentration of Sweden in a few major metros

I don’t think that’s true, and neither do the Swedes. They have restaurants open, for example - also some bars. Lots of kids are still going to school. No, they are not distancing to the extent Americans are.
However, the statistics yesterday, cited by the OP, are probably bogus, because each Saturday has seen a big drop in cases and deaths, probably because of under reporting on the weekend. We won’t know the real picture in Sweden until Tuesday at lunchtime (US).

I think you’re wrong on the why. The reason they have similar numbers of cases per million is because of testing oddities, not because they have similar virus spreads. Sweden almost certainly has more folks catching the virus per million than those other countries. THAT was their plan, though. The Swedes didn’t think social distancing was ineffective. They knew they would get more cases early on. The reason they did it is because they don’t believe the lockdowns are sustainable.
They think the Norweigians and the Finns are going to have to come out of their hidey holes and confront the virus the way the Swedes are. Further, they think the ONLY reason to lockdown is to prevent their health care system from being overrun, a goal they think they can accomplish by trusting the judgement of their citizens. None of us will know if the Swedish method works until their health care system is overrun, or their cases subside without that happening.
