This is a true statement. Humans are primates

I can see where this might be a little problematic

We had an office manager one time that liked to drink and at the company Christmas party got pretty toasted and to get everyone's attention got on top of a table and shouted "OK you sons of bitches - get over there!" as loud as she could, then promptly fell off the table.

That was a career fatality.

A decade ago, I was caught freelancing on my full time job's time (double-dipping). The supervisor who I thought was a good work mate at the time saw me. Instead of warning me or giving me advice, the fricker went on and told the boss. It was a stupid decision but I had a hard time paying bills and was expecting a child. A week later I was fired. I had to make up a bogus story for my wife.

Had one of my drivers earlier this year leave a bunch of weed and a coke straw in one of the vehicles...that are meant as public transportation. Nice guy, and I don't care what you do on your own time (obviously) but goddamn...how dumb do you have to be to leave that in a vehicle that other people are going to use the next day?

This reminded me of my cousin's husband. He had an executive position as Sales Director for a well known rum bottler company overseas. His only boss was the CEO. Was making $15K a month 20 years ago.

He had a mini bar at his office. Obviously free booze all the time. Started drinking occasionally on company time. Years later he was getting hammered during regular business hours. He got fired and eventually became a jobless alcoholic. My cousin left him.

Back before Zoom calls were super popular, I had a friend do a Zoom training call with a client trying to teach them something about their software. Apparently he had a chat box open with a coworker and was talking shite about "how freaking dumb these clients were that couldn't figure this out on their own". Lol. We still joke with him routinely about it and its been years.

Couple come to mind...

Kid that was on my team began reporting to a newby manager. It was Y2K. Kid was a huge Va Tech fan and wanted to go see the VT/FSU Nat'l Championship game. BUT, our CIO at the time said no-one goes out of town and must be available to pitch in and help w any IT issues. This kid ignored it and went to the Sugar Bowl anyway. Which I would have had no problem with as he just joined the team and didn't know anything anyway. Well, he calls in sick that Monday (from NoLa). His newby boss somehow had his call traced and proved he was out of town and had him fired. I was pissed as he was a great resource.

Another one, at a top 10 ten bank I worked for...during the 2008/9 mortgage crisis. At the beginning of the massive foreclosures, this bank I worked for brought in this VP to lead a new default team...and he brought in all his boys. They were from NYC, dressed like they were in the Mafia, slick backed hair, great suits, etc. Paid em alot of money. Only problem was when the VP began banging multiple admins (he was married), at times in his office apparently. Gave them both thousands in gift cards funded by the bank. One night at a happy hour these two admins started comparing notes and he was exposed. Later that night one of the admins fired shots into his house. He was fired the next day. I'll never forget the couch that was in his corner office...it sat outside in the hallway for a week waiting for disposal...it was a running joke...don't sit on that couch.

I worked at a car dealership in the 90s. One of the mechanics in the service department took a customer's car and traded it for some drugs. Showed up 3 days later acting like nothing happened.

When I worked fast food, it occasionally happened where someone would fake a robbery and take the money. It was always the dumbest ones that did it, so it usually fell apart pretty quickly.

I worked at Service Merchandise back in college. Our warehouse manager got caught with a big box that he was pushing out to "put in the dumpster". Store manager happened to walk in and offer to help and noticed the "empty" box was pretty heavy.

He had a whole bunch of electronics in the box. Not only fired, but arrested and fired.

Many years ago I was doing sales at The Daily Advertiser in Lafayette and the Sales Manager was this a-hole who was fairly useless. I was routinely complaining about the lack of support we got to do our jobs, etc and one day he casually called me into his office for a chat.

He asked me, "If you were me, what would you do?" I was 29 at the time, and had NO IDEA he wasn't really asking.

So I crossed my leg, and for about 20 minutes I laid out an entire manifesto of things which should change in order to get the most out of the sales staff, etc. It wasn't just complaints...it was actual real world potential solutions.

I was fired a week later when they "consolidated territories" and I was the odd person out, despite me having the highest sales each month by roughly $50,000. I later found out at least a handful of the things I'd suggested were implemented.

So kids...either answer that question knowing you're on the way out, or say, "Nothing! You're doing GREAT!"

Yeah, we had a soft no drinking at work policy (in place for most employees but the sr team ignored it always after hours). I was known to have bourbon in my desk and my office was the happy hour location most evenings. It was a one or two drink thing once in a while.

Some news reporter I heard about was jacking it while on a Zoom call with his company and WNYC Radio.

This one had so much more, but it was about 25 years ago and I can't remember the rest. We referred to it as the "quitter's manifesto" for years afterwards. It was glorious.

Telling the owner of the company "I don't work for you, I'll do the way I want to do it" while sitting on the fork lift paid for by the owner. I am the owner.

I kinda got blackmailed into getting a guy fired

I was in Nola for a convention- did the Bourbon St trek with colleagues and chairman of the regional board (think non profit organization) i was a new hire, less than a month- one of the colleagues paid for me to have a ride in the barber chair where the barmaid spun you around, poured tequila in your mouth, slapped the shite outta your face then shoved your head into her large boobs. Someone videod it and sent it to me…

It was a point of conversation the next day ….so when i was with one of my National bosses for drinks, he said he heard about it…to show him the video- i felt i had no choice so i did/ later that night, more people showed up, including my actual boss and her boss ….the National boss told me to play the video again…this time, my real boss coaxed me to show it- i got reprimanded by my boss for showing the video (again, she told me to show it) and then reported the National boss to HR.

Two weeks later, i got a call from HR and I had to share the WHOLE story to them …literally everything he told me and he had some wild AF stories involving cocaine and hookers and strip clubs and all.

He got fired…and actually died two months later from a heart attack (prolly cocaine) and I am the non profit separated 7mos later…i wish i would have claimed hostile work environment to highlight how the bitch boss used me to help fire someone she didn’t like

Worked at a vitamin mixing plant for about a year, had a manager named Troy that was a dick and let that job title go to his head. I got yelled at by him but took it in stride. He yelled at the wrong guy one day and this dude told him "You have a 10 second head start" and chased his arse all over. We were watching him basically run laps around the property yelling "HELP". It was in the middle of nowhere so it took a while for police to get out there. Guy didn't get arrested because he never touched him, just escorted off the property.

Apparently, he didn't learn his lesson and belittled another new guy, got socked right in the face and dropped him.

Not that good of a story but definitely a stupid reason to get fired.
When i worked at a grocery story in my early days, a guy was running the register and his friend went in line to check out with him. The cashier only checked out 1 donut when the friend had 2 or 3 in his bag. Dude got fired over something that cost less than $2

I heard of this lady in marketing one time putting a transgender person on a Bud Light can, I think they made it about another week.
