Worked in financial services for a while and had a guy make up his entire background. Fake degrees, handmade diploma and all. Only got found out bc he had gotten drunk at a conference and told another employee… who was a compliance officer ?

I was always amazed how, with all the regulations in that job, something as brazen as that could slip by.

One of my fraternity brothers got an offer in the fall of his senior year and blew off the spring semester and just partied his arse off. The company never checked.

OTOH another guy was about to graduate and LSU found he had missed taking some sophomore level elective. He already had a job and everything. They made him take it correspondence and mailed his diploma to him after he passed it.

Summer after graduating high sxhool, overnight stocking at Walmart - decided one night to turn the pallet jack around and ride it like a scooter while flipping off the cameras thinking nobody was watching at 3a. Turns out the store manager was there super early and was watching. I didn't finish the shift.

While working at Jubans in college (early 2000s)

Regular lunch couple to a back waiter

"Young man, what is your soup de jour"

He replied "soup of the day, duh" (dumb and dumber)

Fired on the spot.

The couple was the LSU president and his wife....

I had a few managers repeatedly shake down a contractor for various things in return for contracting his services. A set of golf clubs. A hunting rifle. Etc.

One day the contractor was fed up and carried a recorder in his pocket. Recorded his conversation with the managers and called the company hotline.

They were escorted out and someone else cleaned out their offices.

Worked at Ormet back in early 2000. If you worked overtime, you got a voucher for $7, to buy a meal. You cashed it in at the guard shack.
Dumbass electrician, who had been there for nearly 20 years, had the great idea of xeroxing the voucher and cashing it in to buy cigarettes on the way home.
He got fired for stealing $7.

I was a DM for a restaurant chain and got a call from a customer to tell me she was at a table and over-heard a manager say, to his wife at a table in the dining room…”I can’t take any more deposits we got a new DM and he will definitely check.”
The accounting dept was always behind but they would have busted him in about 2 more weeks, I had them audit his restaurant and he had stolen 11k worth of deposits. Just took the whole thing for several days. He was in Ft Worth and I made him drive to Dallas to fire him. He paid about 8k back vs getting arrested.

A friend of mine was working at a life insurance company that his dad was regional manager in New Orleans. He called in sick, but was going fishing offshore instead. While out on the water, a large fish jumped in the boat and hit him in the face. It made the local news and was seen by his pops AND several employees. Pops had to fire him.

At previous job, one of the c-suite's admins was going through a rough divorce. Her soon-to-be ex kept emailing all the executives with topless pics of her and of them having sex. At first they had her back, but the pics escalated and at some point, they had seen enough. They didn't fire her, but performed a "re-org" and her position was eliminated. BTW, they were fake...but impressive.

At current job, one of the executives was caught in a kickback scheme with a vendor. The vendor would be billed for work that was actually done by company employees and then he would split the money with the executive.

I got fired once...I dumped an igloo cooler of melted ice on the shoes (brand new cowboy boots) of a superintendent during a lunch box check leaving a plant one afternoon. There was an empty can in the mix and he told me to clean it up...I told him if he wanted it cleaned up he could do it as I was on my time. He got fighting mad and followed me to my truck and when I opened the door he grabbed it and said if I didn't pick that can up he would fire me....I told him if he did not get his hands off my truck he was going to have call an ambulance because one of us was going to need it...he started in with somthing along the lines of "are you threatening me???" and, taking his point, decided he was right and carried out what he perceived as a threat...I managed to land about 3 good ones before several folks grabbed me. Next morning he made good and fired me.

About 10 years later I was working as a Project Manager on a sizeable job in the US Virgin Islands and lo and behold one of the subs was the same contractor...and guess who their superintendent was. I did not recognize him the first time he attended a weekly meeting but afterwards he approached me and asked me if I had worked on that project...it dawned on me than that it was the same contractor and he was the super on that job. Honey would not melt in his mouth for about a month...until I mentioned to him that as far as I was concerned he and I had settled our differences that day and personally I had no hard feelings. We got along fine after that and I partnered with the same company on a job that neither of us could bond alone and he was their superintendent on that project also.

He had it coming though...dude kept a busload of men in a dirt parking lot in Darlington SC after working 12 hours in August so he could check lunch boxes while they were stepping off a bus. He had been super before, he knew that was a seriously bad idea....
