Straighten your candle dude.
And yes NOLA will get money before LC. Sad situation for real.

I’m not sold on this argument, but I would listen to an argument that basically said that people pay taxes for first responders so that they’ll be available in emergency situations.
I would bet that many first responders wouldn’t feel good about leaving exactly when people most need them.
Well, in just about every major storm, there's a point that is reached where services are cut off as it is no longer safe to put the first responders in harms way. Hell, I believe JP and OP both stopped rolling EMS for a while yesterday.
You think the first responders want...or CAN...head out in the conditions GI was getting yesterday to try and save those that stayed behind? You don't think they'd prefer to go home to their families, instead of trying to save some idiot in 140+ mph winds and 15-20' surge?

It seems like ideally there would be a storm-proof shelter for these first responders to hunker down in for the worst of it.
They do have a pretty well-built structure, but why risk the human life?
Like I said, in almost every major storm that I can remember, just about every department will tell people that after a certain point...you are on your own if you choose to stay.

Under promise and over deliver. I don’t blame them.

I bet Nola gets their federal money before LC does
LC can't get any respect. We had the biggest hurricane in LA...didn't even last a year before it was eclipsed.
I'm waiting for Nic Hunter to lose his mind when everywhere else gets federal funding before LC does. Those "updates" he provides on FB will be highly amusing.

SIL went and checked on our house in NOLa. She said it looks like everything held up with no damage. Miracle. I am so relieved.
Of course no power or water. Found a generator in Florida to bring back when we come home later this week. The water/sewerage situation will be interesting.

You got to watch those "events in Frenchman's Bend".

Power is bad enough but 5 days without water is exactly why you should plan and stock up on water prior.

Agreed
Things would be much more dire if the wind and flooding had been worse. By most accounts, NOLA was spared catastrophic damage.

The Westbank is, roughly, this area:
Now I am no expert and I'm sure there are intricacies that will lead to arguments, but the west side of that area in red got MUCH worse winds than New Orleans

They’ll probably upgrade it. The thinking is that if 149 was sustained and recorded, a maximum wind of 156 likely occurred.
I read that an anemometer at the coast guard station at Grand Isle either blew away or flooded at close to 162 sustained. It was Twitter so who knows if it’s accurate.
I have seen nothing confirmed about Grand Isle at all today. No pictures or damage reports at all.

kenner, harahan and elmwood are all east bank.
west bank refers to the west bank of the river. Avondale, westwedo, harvey, gretna, Algeirs and that area. further out is belle chase but that is entirely different

My wife says Entergy ceo just said 7-10 days for power, up to 3 weeks for hard hit areas?
Posted on 8/30/21 at 9:39 am to SlowFlowPro
Kenner and Metairie are not part of the Westbank.
Everything "South" of the river is the westbank, since it's technically the "West" side of the river.
