Yeah, I mean...I want those folks out of the immediate danger so they can get back in as quickly as possible to help, as they know the people/area.

Having people not as familiar rescuing those that should be doing the rescues does nobody any good.

I’m not sold on this argument, but I would listen to an argument that basically said that people pay taxes for first responders so that they’ll be available in emergency situations.
I would bet that many first responders wouldn’t feel good about leaving exactly when people most need them.
It seems like ideally there would be a storm-proof shelter for these first responders to hunker down in for the worst of it.
I’m not judging the situation, just thinking.

FYI, I have a thread on how to navigate the upcoming next few days dealing with tarping and dry-out companies. A lot of scammers are incoming.

Thread

Hope it helps some people out

The lady on ABC news said clarinet.
I hate the uninformed national media who think they are so very intelligent. LOL

They drastically increased the chances that their constituents wouldn't have first responders alive.

This isn't the time for cowboy shite. You can't help anybody if you're isolated, hurt, or dead.

Rare case where winds equal to what the NHC says are actually recorded

They’ll probably upgrade it. The thinking is that if 149 was sustained and recorded, a maximum wind of 156 likely occurred.

More populated and less heavily evacuated. That's why I'm not sure what the hell is going to happen in the entire Nola metro the next 2-4 weeks.

I think somebody said last night that OP regulates Entergy in Nola and not the state commissioner

that doesnt matter.

in the end, the power has to leave the plant and they can not afford to runit underground. it has to be high above the ground because of how strong the voltage is. they already make the towers out of steel. They can only do so much.

there are other ways to route it, but similar to the LC situation after laura, if the hurricane takes out those main lines too....not much you can do about it.

In the end the power has to get to nola on huge transmission lines. if the storm takes them out from all directions....wtf they gonna do?

the levee system held. they city immediately went to backup turbines for drainage pumps and kept massive flooding from happening.

was it perfect?...nope

are there lessons learned? absolutely

but NOLA isnt in some kind of situation where its their fault other than not calling a mandatory evec. But at some point poeple have to not be retards and stop waiting on governmnet to tell them what to do (outside of the discussion on insurance and needing mandatory evac for loss of use etc)

At least 21 days without power, 5 days without water Jefferson Parish officials say

This is terrible reporting. Impastato said the 21 days was based on what entergy said at a pre-hurricane conference. He said he has no idea when the power will be restored. They are currently assessing everything. Power could take a week or it could take a month. No one knows at this time.

I mean it probably will deserve 5-10x the amount

I'm not worried about that. I can just foresee a situation where a huge DEM federal slush fund area gets that government money relatively quickly.

whats prolly going to happen is SWLA will get their money now too. Almost assuredly.

Can someone take a NOLA area map and label westbank, etc? I know Northshore but that is it aside from NOLA.

I just know it's "backwards". And yeah y'all can lol.

I left the Northshore and came to my family in Monroe. I ended up at a hurricane event in French men's Bend the last two nights. Yesterday afternoon, one of the neighbor wives said out loud she is getting all of her hurricane info from the stickied thread on the OT. I then raised my eyebrows as I was reading this thread and said that's what I'm doing now.

The power of this place never ceases to amaze me. It's times like these that are what make this the best website on the world wide web.

Yeah you're probably right. They state will roll this into 1 program that they administer. Road Home on steroids.

They’re going to have to employ some serious manpower and hope that power to Kenner, Met and St Bernard can be re-routed somehow

Doesn’t fix things inside the city but at least people would have somewhere to escape for a little while
