That is so sad. Those people are somebody's kid. They were 5 yr olds looking forward to kindergarten. 10 yr olds thinking about middle school and one day being a fireman or astronaut.

Eventually they made their bed but at one time in history they didnt get what they needed and someone failed them.

Not making excuses for them overall but man, as a parent that makes me sad for them.

Yes, as a parent, and a fellow human being, I agree. However, these people are now adults, and have made poor adult choices -- and continue to make them.

I've learned that people won't change or leave what they have unless what they believe they are going to is better. As long as drugs are permitted and accepted in the city of San Francisco, the likelihoood of the majority of drug addicts wanting to seek help and get better is minimal. It will continue to be the destruction of what was once a great city, and help aid the demise and death of human beings.

News flash. The politicians and nonprofits there don’t want to actually “fix” the homeless problem and the drug problem. The fact that California has spent billions on both and they’ve only gotten worse makes sense when you accept that.

The politicians and nonprofits have monetized the "issue" and the "issue" will continue in perpetuity.

The automatic monthly refill of their gubment (sic) checks doesn't register where the taxpayers' money is spent.

Is it not telling to you or anyone that these people and the people in these cities or areas overwhelmingly vote Democrat?

No argument here.

Such a cop out. "Oh, it's only downtown that's overrun with subhuman scum. Just don't go downtown." Los Angeles is the same way. San Diego. too. All the major cities in Cali have the same homeless, druggie scum problem.

Mostly Honduran gangs in San Francisco. The cops don’t do much arresting because DAs won’t prosecute.

I never said it was a good thing. Just pointed out that pictures like that are isolated. You can go around all day in the city and not see that, if you just avoid those areas.

Always someone else's fault. Maybe they failed themselves.

How do you know they weren't given all the love and support they needed but still chose this path? Why are you so sure someone failed them?

Not true. I hear the dope is much better (and cheaper) in SF than it is in cities such Sacramento, CA and Tacoma, WA. That’s what brings them in but the weather keeps them around.

I got a c note that says the majority of them come from dysfunction. Sure there are some normal families that produce junkies, but by and large, most of these people were reared by those who never had any business having children.

Still sad, but not all that surprising.

I was last there in 2012. I was asked if I wanted to buy oxy or heroin a few times. Crazy but it wasn't that bad yet. Walked around a lot had a great time. No desire to go back after what I've been seeing.
