I can only imagine. Almost everyone these days thinks what they have to share is so important. It's completely self-fulfilling, and instead of enjoying the moment (and company), they are too focused on what's on the 6 inch screen instead of what is 6 feet in front of them.
I even looked. My eye sight and attention span aren't what they used to be.

Supper Club in Baton Rouge puts $5000 martini on the menu that comes with a three-carat tennis bracelet from Anton's Fine Jewelry.

During LSU's graduation weekend in May, one Alabama guest in town to celebrate a family member was so impressed with the restaurant that she Facetimed her husband back home to show him the menu and the dining room's sleek design.

quote:

While she was showing him the menu, he noticed the $5,000 martini. After they hung up, he called the restaurant, gave the name of the reservation and his credit card and ordered the drink — and the diamond tennis bracelet that comes with it — for his wife.

“We’re not really trying to compete with anyone in town,” Carbo said. “We’re trying to be completely different.”

You think?!?!

The newest cocktail, Diamonds Are Forever, upped the ante — not necessarily for the drink, but for the three-carat tennis bracelet from Anton's Fine Jewelry that’s presented with it. Supper Club doesn’t do traditional marketing, Carbo said. The purpose of the $5,000 cocktail is to push the envelope, elevating the customer experience .

The inspiration came from Papi Steak, a restaurant in Miami, Florida, that sells a $33,000 martini with a Birkin bag.

Once I reach an annual salary of $40,000, I plan to go there to see what this experience is all about.

Their stuffed fried shrimp are great. I also like their chicken and sausage gumbo. Daily lunch specials are good too -- especially their chicken fried steak.

Great suggestion. Always consistent. I love their pork chop.

Used to be, and probably still is ... a great spot ...

Angry Dog in Deep Ellum. Right by Cane Rosso. And Pecan Lodge BBQ.

AD makes a great burger, pasta salad, and hot dog.

Yes

Also, what is a "C wire" and how do I know if I have/need this?
. The C-wire's primary job is to provide a continuous 24-volt power supply to the thermostat. The wiring should be labeled, if you have it, "C-Wire."

I had a similar, strained relationship with my mother - which had the added bonus of some physical abuse by her second husband my step father.

I learned that my biological father had tried to make contact with my sister and me through our early years, but my mom didn't allow it. It was her way of punishing him for what he did to her (adultery), and it allowed her to be the "good" person in our eyes.

A couple of years ago, I decided on my own accord, to reach out to him. I was not necessarily looking to start a relationship, because I have never had one with him, but I had a curiosity to find out more about the person who helped me join this world. The day that I called, I learned that was the same day he was put on hospice. He died a few days later.

My mom ended up passing away last year, shortly after my "dad" (step-father who I called dad) died 6 months earlier.

I've had to sit in reality a lot, and find forgiveness --- not for my mom, or my biological father, but for me. None of what took place can ever be changed. It happened. But I have made peace with it, because I owe that to myself.

Going through this situation has only reaffirmed my committment to always be the best father I can be to my two daughters. I'm divorced, but I am heavily involved in their lives, and I always will be. I learned from my own situation what not to do, and I am doing the exact opposite of it.

Im going on vacation next week and I tell my mom I am. She just called me to say "How come you traveled with your dad and but never asked me to go anywhere?"

The truth is that I was probably punishing her some for keeping me and him away from each other. Also she is a user and never called me since Ive been an adult except to ask for something she needed. Even when I was going thru a troubling time in life did she once call just to see how I was doing.

With that background...how can I respond kindly to her? She is old and ill and we've improved our relationship though she still is very needy and call to ask for shite.

If your true thoughts and feelings are going to upset her, what do you stand to gain by telling her? You mentioned that your relationship has improved and that she is old. Be the bigger person, and let it be.

I know we all have it in us to prove that we're right, but I can promise you this. It doesn't matter. If you're going to reconcile this, reconcile this in your own mind and make peace with it.

If there's a window to forgive, to make peace, to simply be there ... take it. Let go of pride. The things we hold onto often pale in comparison to what we lose when it’s too late.

What is the most money you have ever won on a lottery ticket?

I’m pretty sure the mom of a friend I went to middle and high school with just won the scratch-off lottery. She won over $2M, which comes out to about $1.4M after taxes. I think it made the news either today or yesterday.

They are good people.

J. Alexander’s

I'll say this about J Alexander's. The service is always great. They serve a great burger -- and have the best fries in town.

And ... their filet and Hawaiin ribeye, along with a loaded baked potato and macaroni and cheese are easily on par with the top steak restaurants in town.

Plus they have an excellent chocolate cake dessert with vanilla ice cream. For it being a chain, it is a damn good chain restaurant. Very similar to Houston's.

re: Shrimp Fettuccine

Posted by Will Cover on 5/18/26 at 6:07 pm to
2 tablespoons butter
2 teaspoons creole seasoning
1 pound cooked and peeled shrimp (or crawfish)
2 tablespoons minced shallots
1 tablespoon minced garlic
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon Crystal Hot sauce
2 cups heavy cream
Salt and pepper
1/2 cup grated Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese
1/4 cup chopped green onions
1 pound fresh fettuccini, cooked al dente and tossed with olive oil

In a large sauté pan, melt the butter. Sauté the shrimp in the butter for 2 minutes. Season with Creole Seasoning. Add the shallots and garlic and continue sautéing for 1 minute. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, Crystal Hot sauce, and cream. Bring the liquid up to a boil and reduce to a simmer. Simmer for about 8 minutes or until the sauce thickens.

In a mixing bowl, toss the pasta with the shrimp sauce. Season with salt and pepper. Fold in the grated cheese and green onions and serve immediately.

Here’s a wild idea…2 dishwashers…one in the island and one in the scullery….if the one in the island is pissing you off only use it when no one is around

I had been giving this some thought the last several days since you originally posted, and I'm almost certain this will be the direction I go in.

I'm looking at a Fisher & Paykel double (or single) dish drawer for the island. Takes up significantly less real estate when open, and won't block the island / range walkway.

I have a Bosch 800 that I will utilize for my Scullery (taking this with me from my current house).

I love that your pantry is behind the scullery.

Why not slide the fridge closer to the scullery too? I think it makes sense to locate the fridge closer to both the pantry and scullery.

I sent revisions in to my architect late last week actually requesting just that.

Thanks for confirming what I thought made more sense!
Anyone on here have any firsthand experience with Sonance? If so, what do you think of it?

I was originally planning to go with Sonos, but the company I’m working with used to sell Sonos and doesn’t really recommend it anymore — mainly because of the app problems. They’re big on Sonance now instead. Could be better margins for them too ... the little research that I have done indicates they are more of a premium item.

I heard a Sonance setup in a home at a normal listening volume and thought it sounded really good. The install also looked super clean and low-profile.
