BRUSLY —- A crash Saturday afternoon in West Baton Rouge has landed a 38-year-old woman from Prairieville behind bars.

It was around 2:15 p.m. on Sept. 12 when a golf cart, occupied by juveniles, was driving down W. St Francis Street near Elaine St.

Brusly officers say the golf cart’s driver was attempting to turn left onto Elaine St. At the same time, the driver of a grayish blue Mercedes SUV, now identified as Adriel Smith, was attempting to pass the golf cart in passing zone. That’s when the SUV’s right passenger side hit the golf cart, cause it to flip on its side.

Smith is said to have then fled the scene, officers said. She was arrested Sunday evening and charged with hit & run driving and obstruction of justice.

The juveniles on the golf cart had minor injuries.

It’s unclear if the juveniles or their parents will face charges as driving a golf cart on the roadway is against the law.

Probably drunk if she ran.

Golf cart shouldn't had been on the highway. Parents need to face legal action too.

This woman is not at fault for the accident, but if she did leave the scene she is guilty of that.

Yea, she needs to be reprimanded, but honestly, quit letting kids drive golf carts on roads.

Yep

Wasn't she allowed to pass and be in the LH lane?

To me, it looks like the kids in the golf cart are at fault for the accident.

Hard to know without more info on what happened. But the golf cart probably had no turn signals. Those things don’t belong on the road.

Which is why she was arrested for Hit & Run and Obstruction of Justice, not for causing the accident or injuring anyone.

well in a normal situation, you cant pass someone on the left if they are trying to turn left on a two way street like that obviously. but in this case the lead vehicle was a golf cart that shouldnt have been on the road to begin with most likely (unless there was some sort of local ordinance in place allowing street legal golf carts), and i doubt the golf cart had a blinker on.

ditto for SxSs, four wheelers, gokarts, scooters, e-bikes and all the other non-legal motorized vehicles they allow on the roads.

Total lawlessness lucky if these kids can see over the steering wheel

Unlicensed drivers all over the streets.

Arrest the parents and put the kids in juvenile for a year.
Parents can afford to keep up with the Jones then pay $50,000;to defend yourself on criminal charges.

That's a tough one. To me, the golf cart driver seems at fault for the accident as they don't get into the left lane until well after the SUV is established and making the pass. And as others have pointed out, the golf cart isn't street legal.

Absolute fricking moron for fleeing the scene, and an even bigger moron if she fled because she was drunk.

Really hope the golf cart riders are okay, but everyone involved here is an idiot.

She could have honked her horn, blinked her lights to show intention of passing. Would have been a common sense thing to do. But, kids driving golf carts, this is an increasing issue everywhere.
