I had someone from DEMCO tell me 6 months ago this was coming.
I spoke with my councilman and he said he heard the rumors but didn’t know anything concrete.

I make a lot of money selling in construction to data centers here in Texas. I’m prolly gonna move back so I guess job security

These data centers bring in nowhere near that in income, and don't provide all that much in jobs. No, a data center in Walker wouldn't be prudent. In a desolate area like Pine Grove maybe.

I thought sales tax exempt was only for companies buying things to resell, not to consume.

What the frick did I just read?
A quick Google search tells you that the annual budget for the Parrish County government is around 90 million.

Sounds impressive, but what is the reality of that number and it actually happening?
If an annual tax is say 1% of revenue (yearly) that would indicate a single data center in the USA is generating 3,000,000,000,000 in annual revenue. 3 TRILLION in annual revenue for a single data center seems as probable as this.
My guess is after it is all said and done, this may be closer to the annual tax stream.

If it keeps investing in itself it won’t pay a dime. It’ll write most of it off as a loss.

Nope. Meta's sales tax exemption will be several billion dollars over the 20 year life.

Do you actually believe that? They may use it to avoid paying $30+ Billion in taxes as they suddenly start depreciating the most expensive assets ever built.
These companies aren't going to suddenly become altruistic

Thank you! Data centers are going to become massive write-off more than taxable assets. OP is buying a bill of lies

Granted I no longer understand money volume, but how on earth would a data center generate enough revenue to create $30,000,000,000.00 in parish taxes a year?
I had the same thought when Elon made his announcement, think of all the revenue generated in building a 100 billion dollar facility when sales tax is over 10%.
Even if SpaceX gets credits and rebates on those taxes, that will churn in the economy 5 or 6 times.
Think of the economic growth that happened after Katrina when over 100 billion dollars in damage had to be repaired and the windfall the state had.

and pay for their own water, etc
Newer data centers are engineered to cool with glycol so even less water demand than previous ones.
