It is corporate welfare and it should end, but never will.

Local food banks went from being donation based to being government funded over time and are crying with the recent budget changes.

Should have killed SNAP and funded the food banks where healthy options could be forced and fraud could be reduced.

They did it backwards.

If they had applied a premium to the bad shite they might have accomplished something.

I'm fine with this as long as they charge 30% more for items like soda, chips, and filets.

There is a long running scheme to abuse EBT by buying bottled water, emptying all the bottles in the parking lot, and returning the empty bottles for a credit. All for <$1 per case of water.

I’m convinced that some of these guys selling watermelons on the side of the road are getting them via EBT. They’ll have a sign saying Washington Parish watermelons or whatever, but how can you really know?

Those items shouldn't be on SNAP anyway. It should cover necessities. Bread, rice, beans, fruit, vegies, etc.

You want the other stuff, get a job and buy it.

How about making things like soda, candy, chips, and pre-cooked food not eligible first.

I actually do not mind this.

If you can get even a fraction of people to get healthy it would cut the costs that our taxes really pay.

The Hispanic ones just got more fruit to sell on the interstate.

Will there ever be a day where all the entitlements stop?

It will always be abused and there’s no incentive to go work.

Or they could just make it so they can only buy certain foods with the money. So just exclude junk food, etc. But I'm sure that would be discrimination in some form...

but it doesn’t seem like this could be overly abused with a 25.00 limit

They will find a way

In about 5 years we will find out a flaw in the system made fruit flavored swisher sweets an accepted item

So, if everyone on SNAP started buying fresh fruits and vegetables, it would affect the supply and the prices for everyone else. But they'll keep buying little Debbie's and cokes.
