Nothing wrong with that, nor with deciding not to carry. Carrying involves risk, too. People get shot accidentally sometimes.

My 1st thought is why did mom return to attack site? I get why she did it and also was not in her rational mind. She would have lived had she stayed with her children and as difficult as it was, allow the law enforcement to go back to the site.
You can't question this. She's going back to help her husband. There's no rational thinking involved. The kids will understand one day.

They need to catch this fricker NOW. All parks should have cameras up for all people entering and exiting. Not sure if this one did.

Carry a gun if you want to but doing so to prevent being one of 2 of 950,000 people, again a very low number, is ludicrous.
He is talking about hiking in the woods anywhere. If you look at bear attacks in National Parks and compare number of visitors you would likely get insignificant chance of risk...but nobody says carrying bear spray is ludicrous.

Truer words never spoken. I always have my firearm on me when hiking and I do a lot of hiking. It has saved me two times.
A lot of sorry arse people take advantage of any situation.

I know we all want this to make sense, however this could fall into the random nut job attack category. Sadly these evil bastards exist. Reminds me of that sick F that killed the two girls in Indiana while hiking a few years back.
A good blast of bear spray in that bastard’s face would have broke that attack off fast.

If you aren't carrying a firearm, you're a statistic waiting to happen.

I get it and we all would have done the same. It’s just a thought that crossed my mind reading. Terrible.

A great word that is nearly unknown is logorrhea.

Here's a stat for you:
one study found that individuals who possessed guns were 4.46 times more likely to be shot in an assault.

lol
Well the only two times it has happened was hiking in Ruffner Mountain Park. ( it’s not a big hike but close to get a hike in) It’s in Birmingham and one side butts up against a not so good part of town.
Had the culture try to rob me at knife point one time and then one time I came up on a couple getting robbed at knife point.
It was both times a true crocodile Dundee moment… because I had a gun.
The one where I came up on the couple being robbed, I held the guy at gun point while the man beat the shite out of the little gangster and then walked him back to the police who met us on the trail.
Edit to add I don’t hike there anymore.

We are in the Jasper are 4 to 5 times a year for a week at a time. We've learned many BFE areas and are without cell reception most of the time. I always have my Shield 9mm and my wife always has her Sig on the side of our back packs!!!!!!

Wow, that all sounds almost like it happened!

It’s always amazing how many on the OT are victims of crime.
I work in New Orleans East, one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the world and I’ve never been a victim of a robbery. Yet we have an OTer that has had to play vigilante twice on a random mountain in Alabama. What are the odds.

Another study showed that an attacker is MUCH more likely to be shot by someone with a firearm than by someone who's unarmed.

Eh, I am not saying I believe the guy, but if it's going to happen, Ruffner Mountain would be about the likeliest spot for it I could possible think of.
It buts up against two of the worst neighborhoods (East Lake and Roebuck) in one of the more dangerous cities in America if you go by per capita violence and murder rates. It's pretty, but I sure as hell wouldn't hike there without a personal weapon.

I saw a stat - though it’s been a few years ago, so dont come at me- that if you have a gun in ur home, it’s 40 TIMES more likely that someone in your home/family will be injured or killed by it than a criminal/someone who’s breaking into your home .
Perhaps someone with more time their hands than i do can look it up and verify if that’s accurate .
